What to choose: a desktop PC or laptop?

Desktop personal computer (PC) to date is able to solvea lot of complicated tasks with great speed. But a fully equipped PC takes up a lot of space and its movement from one room to another is fraught with certain difficulties.

That's why there was a need for a laptop that can be easily carried in the hands and used anywhere. So our life included laptops, subnotebooks, netbooks etc. Laptops are small in size and weight, powered by a battery, equipped with an adapter for wireless networks - all that is necessary for convenient mobile work.

What to choose: desktop PC or laptop?

By and large, it is most convenient to have bothcomputer: and desktop, to solve tasks that require high performance, and portable, for operational work anywhere, anytime. But in practice, often you have to choose one thing, because financial opportunities do not always allow you to buy two computers at once.

Compared to a desktop PC, the laptop has several valuable advantages:

  • small size and weight;

  • the possibility of autonomous operation for several hours;

  • There is no need to connect external devices (keyboard, mouse, monitor);

  • the ability to work with wireless networks (WiFi-adapters).

These benefits make it possible to use a laptopwhere the desktop PC will not work, for example, in an airplane or train, on vacation or at a dacha, in a cafe or hotel, etc. Modern laptops are quite efficient and can even be used for 3D modeling or high-quality processing of digital photos, video and audio files.

But a laptop computer compared to a desktop PC of the same performance will cost much more expensive, because the design features of the laptop require the use of special components.

Because of small dimensions, the notebook's components are subject to more stringent requirements for heat generation and size. Notebooks use special mobile processor versions, most often installed built-in video cards and fairly small volumes of operational and permanent memory. It also makes it difficult to repair or upgrade your laptop.

Desktop PC can not take along on the road, it will not work without connecting to the network andrequires the connection of peripherals. But large, in comparison with the laptop, the dimensions allow you to place high-performance components inside the computer case: a graphics adapter (and not even one), a sound card, RAM, one or more hard drives, etc.

Desktop PC will be cheaper, than a laptop of the same performance. This is due to the lower price of components, as well as lower requirements for assembling and repairing PCs than laptops. In a desktop PC, it is easy enough to replace outdated or broken components, without affecting the rest of the PC.

Another advantage of the PC in comparison with the laptop - the possibility of an independent system configuration. The laptop is sold in an already assembled form - you can not change any characteristics. You can build a desktop PC or order an assembly in the workshop in accordance with the chosen configuration.

Both the desktop PC and laptop have both their pluses,and minuses. The choice of this or that device should be determined, first of all, by the tasks that are put before the computer. So, the laptop is unlikely to fit into the role of a gaming station or home theater, but for working with documents or working on the Internet, being away from home or office, it is irreplaceable.
