Basil: growing, planting and sowing from seeds and seedlings. Rules for growing basil in the open ground and in a pot
Every culture in the garden and vegetable garden requires specialcare. More than others, it needs basil - a favorite spice, an excellent healer and just a beautiful plant. A bush of green or purple basil easily copes with a variety of diseases and pests, but nevertheless, it is very demanding for the temperature regime and the quality of the soil. A native of Asia can reach 60 cm in height, so he claims a sufficient amount of light and space. Certainly, in order to get such an impressive basil, growing should be done according to all the requirements. More information about growing the basil at home or in the open ground, from seedlings or without it, we will tell further.
Features of growing basil on the windowsill (watch online)
Agrotechnics planting and growing basil requires the use of well-maintained and
fertile soil, regardless of the location chosen(at home on a windowsill or at a dacha in a greenhouse for sale (business), for example polycarbonate 3 meters wide). The plant is very thermophilic, categorically does not tolerate frosts and suffers from any temperature drop. For sure, therefore, many summer residents prefer to care for basil at home, allowing you to adhere to a stable temperature regime and the moisture level of soil and air.
There are three popular options, how to grow basil houses in pots:
The transfer of an adult from an open ground inpot (on the windowsill). This method is suitable for summer residents, who grow basil in summer on open beds. Young plants that do not have time to blossom, along with a clod of earth, are excavated and planted in a small container. After a short time, the basil will blossom. In this period, peduncles are removed, and good shoots are cut to cuttings for reproduction;
Cultivation cuttings from the previous bush. This method consists in the reproduction of the basil by apexes or lateral shoots. They are carefully cut from the existing bush and put in a container of water for 2 weeks. After the appearance of rootlets, plants are transplanted into pots with soil. The first greens are harvested 10-15 days after disembarkation.
Cultivation of a new plant from seeds. Basilisk bushes planted from seeds, it takes 8-10 months for a full-fledged formation. But after the end of such a long period, the quality and service life of the plant become much higher than in other ways of growing.
Basil: growing from seeds (seedlings in a flowerpot)
The process of sowing and planting basil in the homeconditions are called differently: growing in a pot, on a window sill, etc. The essence remains unchanged. For this purpose, seeds of almost all cultivars are suitable, but the shortest beam-forming ones are better than others.
Soil soil for basil must bewater-permeable, easy and fertile. The mixture can be prepared from 1 part humus and 2 - peat. Do not forget about drainage. For the planting of basil, it is obligatory. At first, the pot is filled one third with expanded clay or foam, and only then the soil is poured out.
Cultivation of basil from seeds assumespreliminary preparation of planting material. A few hours before sowing seeds are soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. The depth of the basil planting is 1 cm, the distance between the seeds is 8-10 cm.
Seeds of basil are sown in moist soil andtightly pull the pot with a film. The ideal temperature for sprouting such a culture is 23-28C. The first sunrises will appear after 5-7 days. Young plants are moved to a warm place with good lighting and provide them with regular care in the form of watering and feeding. In addition to moistening the soil (1-2 times per day), you can also spray the sprouts themselves.
Basil negatively refers to any differencestemperatures and drafts. And heat and light on the contrary contribute to rapid growth and branching. In pots with grown up shrubs twice a week loosen the ground to saturate it with enough oxygen. Infertile soil is fertilized with organic substances.
Features of basil growing allowenjoy fragrant greens all year round. But we must not forget about the proper care of the plant. In the autumn-spring period bushes need additional lighting and heating of the territory. Most often, the sowing of the basil is carried out in February-March, so that the period of its active growth falls on an increasing light day.
Basil: growing out of seeds in open ground
Cultivation of basil from seeds in open groundbegins from the stock of planting material. Seeding on seedlings is recommended to begin in March - for 2 months before disembarkation in the garden. After the appearance of the first pair of full-fledged leaves, the plant can be dived. For picks, use the same type of soil as for seed germination, adding to it a little ash and mineral fertilizer.
Further sprouting of the seedlings and planting it in the open ground oblige to observe all the rules and subtleties:
Care of seedlings of basil is inregular watering with warm water. Also, 1-2 weeks before planting the plant in the open ground it is tempered in the fresh air. The temperature in the street should not fall below 7-10C.
Soil for basil must warm up to + 15C. Only after this, the seedlings are transferred to the open ground. It is easy to remove from the tank if the roots have already mastered the earth clod.
Because the spicy plant does not tolerate heavyclay soil, the ground is pre-filled with compost or humus. Clay soil is recommended to dilute with peat. Indentation between shrubs should not be less than 25 cm, and between rows - at least 30 cm.
At the end of the landing the bushes of the basil are watered abundantly and further carefully monitor the moisture. Overdrying the soil can not be tolerated.
To make the bushes grow well and grow rapidly, the inflorescence is removed in a timely manner with sharp scissors. (
Basil: growing without seedlings
Many gardeners prefer a simplified methodplant basil: growing without seedlings (seeds in the open ground) is faster and more problem-free. As soon as the threat of the return of frost passes, the seeds are sown on the beds. To do this, choose the most quiet and sunny place, protected from winds and drafts. The soil must be loose and light, rich in humus.
Care of the plant during germination andActive growth consists in frequent abundant watering, loosening of soil and periodic fertilization. Harvesting the basil takes place after the full formation of the bush. In place of torn off leaves, new branches will form, bringing even more fragrant greens.
