Patchwork - patchwork
Everything new is a well-forgotten old. That's patchwork, called today patchwork (from the English patch - a flap or patchwork, work - to work, patchwork), again popular among needlewomen. A few useful recommendations for patchwork for beginners are offered by the Country Councils.
Since long patchwork has been widely used by differentpeoples not only as a decorative element, but also purely from the practical side: fix clothes, save precious fabric. As an independent kind of decorative and applied art, patchwork technology was distinguished in England in the first half of the 18th century.
In the patchwork technique, you can make everythinganything: blankets, pillows, rugs, kitchen potholders, clothes and much, much more. It is not difficult to master patchwork - you just need to make friends with a sewing machine.
For patchwork embroidery, absolutely anyfabric of all kinds of colors and textures. Scraps can be monophonic and with a pattern, their shape - whatever fantasy allows. Beginners are best chosen to work cotton fabrics with a small pattern, for example, cotton, satin or linen. These fabrics are well erased and ironed.
If you want to connect shreds of differentthickness and density of tissues, then under the thinner flaps, a lining, for example, non-woven linen, must first be sewn. Too badly worn cloth for patchwork can not be used, because such rags very quickly tear and spoil all the work. But such shreds can be used to stuff future decorative items.
By the way, for packing are also suitable for othersmaterials: foam rubber, old stockings and socks. And if you add dry herbs to the stuffing, you can make not only beautiful, but also very fragrant decoration. Mint, lemon balm, lavender are suitable for this purpose.
Selected patchwork patches for the fabric should becarefully wash and iron. The prepared fabric is cut according to the patterns (taking into account the allowances for seams), and then stitched in accordance with the designed pattern. You can sew the pieces together either manually or with a sewing machine.
Depending on the general idea of the product, seams canbe made in butt or overlap, decorative seams or decorative braid can be applied. If patchwork is used for crumbling fabrics, for example silk, then the edges of the shreds must be swept manually or on the overlock machine.
Getting started is best from the center of the future product. Then the next shreds should be sewn to each other, moving in one direction: clockwise or counterclockwise.
When working with flaps, it is often necessary to take into accountdirection of filaments. Determine the direction of the threads on the shredder with the remaining edge is very simple: the threads running along the edge are shared, the transverse ones are the ducks. If the hem is not preserved on the shred, then you can determine the fractional direction of the filaments: take the flap in your hands and stretch it in different directions - where it lasts least, the share thread passes.
You can sew stitches both from the front side(if using a decorative seam), and with purl. When sewing the patches on the wrong side, leave a small hole - to unscrew the product.
Begin to study patchwork better with simple small items, for example, potholders for hot. A conventional tack can be turned into a real work of art that will decorate any kitchen.
