For new curtains, it is customary to recover to a specialized salon, but if you have a sewing machine and a suitable length of fabric, then the new clothes for windows can be sewn by yourself.

For this master class, we chose the simplest curtains without lining, which are suitable for both the kitchen and the living room. So, let's take a closer look at how to sew beautiful curtains on your own.

Step-by-step instruction on sewing curtains with your own hands

Before going to the store for a cloth, wewe need to take measurements from the window, which we will wear. For example, our window is 170 cm wide and 215 cm high. In this case, an important parameter is the length of the window or the length from the eaves to the floor, the width of the curtains can be changed at their discretion.

On our photo the cornice is located 20 cm abovewindow, respectively, calculating the right amount of fabric, add another 20 cm to 215 cm and get 235 cm. In your case, the cornice may hang higher or lower, respectively, the measurements will be different. In advance, you need to decide whether the curtains will fall to the floor or just to the window sill or radiator.

All this affects the length parameter of the curtains. It is also worth remembering the allowances. On the upper allowance it will be enough to leave 5 cm, but the lower one should be made wider, for example, 20-25 cm. Determine the width of the curtains to your taste.

Since in our case the curtains are sliding, thenthe width of one half curtain is approximately the width of the window, plus 5 cm on the allowances on each side. For clarity, we will calculate how much fabric we need for sliding curtains on the window with our parameters. Length: 215cm (window height) + 20cm (from window to cornice) + 20cm (lower allowance) + 5cm (upper allowance) = 260cm Width: 170cm (window width) x 2 + 5cm each side on the allowances = 340 + 5x4 = 360 cm.

So, the fabric for curtains is acquired. Now you need to cut it correctly. Perhaps, for this you will have to fold the fabric in half or three times. Uncrossing the fabric on smooth cuts, turn it with the wrong side up. Turn the edge of the fabric along the length by 2.5 cm and flatten. In our case, along the edge of the fabric, there was a special information strip, which we tucked, as seen in the photo.

We wrap the fabric again 3 cm and iron it. We sew with sewing pins and we do the same on the other side. We spend on the typewriter as close to the edge as possible. Do not forget to lay a double stitch at 2-3 cm at the beginning and at the end of the line to fix the thread.

With the second half of the curtains we do everything in the sameorder. That's what should turn out in the end. Now go to the sub-branch of the lower edge of the curtains. Make sure that your fabric is on the wrong side up. Measure out 20 cm, tuck and flatten, and so over the entire width of the curtains from the bottom edge.

As a result, we will have a beautiful wide edge on the bottom edge of the curtains. We pin them with pins and stitch it on the sewing machine as closely as possible. That's what happened as a result.

So, we are almost at the finish! It remains only to steal the top of the curtains and attach the rings to the clips. Turn the fabric around 2.5 cm and iron it, as we did before. Turn again 3 cm and iron out. Pinch with pins and stitch as close as possible to the edge.

The sewing machine can be hidden, since it is usno longer needed. At a uniform distance from each other, attach the rings to the clip and hang the curtains on the cornice. On this our step-by-step instruction is finished and the curtains with their own hands, like in the photo, are ready!
