How to sew a knitted dress by yourself: a detailed master-class

If the knitting fabric is thin, stretch,need special sets of needles (# 75), of threads - polyester, thin (for example, 402400). Such a careful selection of needles is due to their peculiarities. Their point has a slight rounding to freely pass between the fibers of knitwear, without damaging them. Selection of needles for the overlock will be similar to the selection for the machine, also with rounded points.

Before sewing a knitted dress, always make a trial stitch on a small piece of fabric (you can use the trimming after patterning). This is necessary to check the quality of the seam:

• 
  there should be no holes - traces from the passage of the needle;


• 
  omissions of stitches are inadmissible. The most suitable seam used for the strike of the main parts can be one of the following:


• 
  narrow zigzag shape (length of one stitch 3 mm, width - up to 1 mm);


• 
  overlock, with the addition of conventional machine direct stitch (3 mm between seams).

When stitching it is necessary to slightly pull thefabric (and not allowances for seams). To sew the edges of the product (hem, sleeves) you can use a special machine or apply a double seam type. For the processing of the neck, especially for fine knitted fabrics, a rope will be useful, cut out by an obliquely stripe from the same fabric.

Any knitted dress with your own hands afterstitching requires careful ironing of the joints. For this, the seam can be slightly attached, and then briefly pressed down on the iron. To move the iron in different directions is not recommended, as it is possible to stretch sensitive knit too.

Patterns of dresses made of knitwear

Before starting to work with patterns, you will need to conduct preliminary training. This will require:

  sewing machine (with manual or foot drive);

  overlock (you can use the built-in seam processing function in a conventional sewing machine);


• 
  table with a large surface area (for cutting);

  various sets of needles (special knitted for the machine and for manual sewing);

  tailor's chalk;


• 
  needle pins (for attaching a pattern);


• 
  meter ruler;


• 
  an iron and an ironing board.

The cutting of such a dress can easily be carried out directly on the fabric, without a pattern.

The sequence of tailoring will be as follows:

   Handling of the bottom of sleeves and seams.


3. 
   Marking of the sleeves along the pellet of the shoulder (trace the correct fit) and processing of the slices.


4.
