Neon fish
Small glowing neon fish considers his homeland South America, or rather - the water of the Amazon. With its charm, this fish won the hearts of many fans of aquariums, who gladly keep it at home.
By its color Neon are one of the most beautiful fish. Their longitudinal blue-green and red glowing stripes attract the attention of all those who decided to watch life in the aquarium.
These fish have miniature sizes - females in length reach 4 cm, males are slightly smaller - 3.5 cm. Neon - the fish are schooly, and, usually, they prefer to keep to the group and try not to sail away from each other.
It is interesting that in general they swim chaotically, but when there is a danger or a strong fright, all their movements are almost synchronous, as in the military parade. Therefore, to fish was more comfortable, it is better to buy at least 5-6 fish at once, and if the size of the aquarium allows, then more than a dozen.
In the aquarium, neons, as a rule, prefer to be in the lower layer of water, but when feeding they willingly go up and up. Many aquarists say that neon is absolutely unpretentious in keeping a fish and will get accustomed to any water. But, of course, it's better not to experiment with water quality in the direction of deterioration.
For neon is suitable for a densely planted aquarium, with a capacity of 30 liters. Without air purging for one fish 2.5-5centimeters need 3 liters of water, and with a purge - 1.5 liters. The optimum water temperature is 20-25 C, but you should make sure that there are no sharp changes.
Approximately 1-2 times a month, it is recommended to replace 10-20% of old aquarium water with a new one, and also add it as evaporation. Maintaining cleanliness in an aquarium with neon is a mattervery important, but uneasy, neons do not like the turbidity of water and the presence in it of many microorganisms. All kinds of neon do not like bright light, and if it is present, they begin to swim along the least illuminated wall, trying to go into the shade.
Feeding is preferred in the water column or at the surface, but, after being hungry, they can dig at the bottom. Males very often "find out the relationship" between themselves, sometimes they are connected to this also by the female. But it's not worth worrying - these skirmishes are completely harmless.
In an aquarium, it is better to use a dark-colored primer. Although the very neon color of the soil is completelyindifferent, but on a light ground they look more pale, and lose some of their interesting color. Stress and unfavorable conditions of detention can lead to a temporary loss of color in neon, but if you correct them in time, everything will fall into place.
The diet of neon usually consists of dry food, and live - daphnia, bloodworm, coretra, tubule, fish can also be offered various frozen, balanced feeds, all kinds of flakes and suitable granules.
Adult fishes are recommended one-time meals, and one day a week can be doneunloading and leave their pets completely without food. And all because neons are prone to obesity, especially when they are kept at elevated temperatures. The most affected are females, which begin to slowly swell, and after a while (usually, up to a year) die.
In themselves, neons are rarely sick, but when treating other diseased fish in the same aquarium with neon, it must be remembered that they have increased sensitivity to medicines based on copper, so the dosage should be reduced by half from the one recommended in the instructions.
