The first alpha release of the program Double Commander (0.3 alpha) was held on December 26, 2007. The latest version of the file manager - 0.5.4 beta from April 1, 2012. At the moment, Double Commander is at the stage of active development.

The program interface is flexible enough, the appearance of the file manager can beEasily change due to numerous settings. Tabs are supported, it is also possible to customize columns and toolbars by adding or removing buttons to run internal menu commands or external programs.


Double Commander has built-in text editor, equipped with syntax highlighting, as well as built-in file viewer, which allows you to view files in thetext, binary or hexadecimal format. Among other useful functions, it is worth mentioning the recording of file operations and the support of plug-ins from Total Commander (WCX, WDX, WLX).


Despite the fact that a free file managerDouble Commander is still at the beta stage of development, its features and functionality are comparable to the popular two-panel file managers Total Commander and Krusader.
