Not enough memory. What to do?Often, users are faced with a problem of lack of memory: an important program does not want to be launched or a favorite computer toy brakes. What should I do if your computer does not have enough memory?

The most common reason for lack of memory is an excessive number of programs that load simultaneously with the start of the system. You absolutely do not need them, but at the same time suchprograms quietly "hang" in the background, taking away some of the RAM required by other applications. To free this memory, you need to remove all unnecessary applications from startup.

If this does not work, then your computer does not have enough memory for other reasons. To begin with, you need to decide which memory is not enough for you - physical or virtual. Physical memory is an operationala memory (RAM), a chipset that is inserted into a special connector on the motherboard. Virtual memory is a swap file, programs that do not have enough RAM are unloaded into it.

If you think that your computer does not have enough virtual memory, you need check the size of the paging file and, if necessary, increase it. To do this, click the Start button and select theControl Panel. In the control panel, select the System section, and in it - the Additional section (Additional system settings for Windows 7). Then, in the sequential section, click Performance - Options - Advanced - Virtual Memory. In the window that opens, you need to manually set the required paging file size and the hard disk partition on which it will be located. The acceptable size of the swap file is 2-3 times the size of the physical memory. After the changes are made, you will need to restart the computer for them to take effect.

If there is not enough physical memory, then there are two options: either it really does not suffice, or it is enough, but the computer does not "see" it. To find out, how much RAM is installed on your computer, right-click the My Computer shortcut on the desktop and select Properties from the shortcut menu. The properties will be set to the size of RAM.

If you see Installed memory (RAM)there is a number of 3.25 GB, but you know for sure that it's more - you probably have a 32-bit system instead of 64-bit system. The 32-bit system simply "does not see" the RAM, which exceeds 3.25 GB. therefore If you have 4 or more gigabytes of RAM, you need to install a 64-bit OS. The problem is that on a weak iron suchthe system will not work normally. Therefore, if the computer does not have enough memory, do not rush to install additional slats in it, and check first whether your processor will pull the 64-bit system.

If the amount of physical memory is less than 3.25 GB,or the computer configuration allows you to put more than 4GB of RAM and install a 64-bit system, you can just buy and install it on a computer additional ram of RAM.

Exist three main types of modern RAM, designed for desktop PCs. The oldest type is DDR (sometimes you can see the designation DDR1). It is installed mainly on old motherboards and is more expensive than more modern types because of its rarity. The most common type of RAM is DDR2, it is installed on most modern computers. This kind of memory is the most accessible precisely because of its prevalence. The newest and fastest type of RAM is DDR3, it is compatible with new motherboards. But memory type DDR3 is almost not common in the market.

Type DDR can be installed by marking on a chip, bydescription of the motherboard (it should indicate the type of memory supported) or by using special utilities that determine the configuration of the equipment. After that, you will only need to buy the necessary amount of RAM of the desired type, set the bar in the volume on the motherboard and for a long time forget that the computer does not have enough memory.
