Hoya: Features of Care

India, South China, Australia and the Pacific islands gave us a wonderful plant, which immediately fell in love with the florists of our land. Hoya effectively decorates the interior, is valued for the decorativeness of the leaves and the original flowering.
Hoya is one of the most common indoor blooming lianas. Its name was given in honor of the English gardener T. Hoy.
In nature, there are about 200 species of this plant, and at home grow, as a rule, only 2 species. This hoya is beautiful and hoya fleshy (waxy ivy).
All hoyi are evergreen climbing plants thatin length can reach 6 m! They differ in fragile shoots that require additional support, small, stiff, thick, oval, dark green leaves covered with a wax coating.
The most important advantage of hoyi is flowers. And this plant blossoms is amazingly beautiful! Its white, with a purple-red star inside, collected in miniature inflorescences umbrellas-flowers fascinate everyone who sees them.
Unlike other plants, hoyi grownew flowers on old peduncles, so they do not have to be cut off after flowering. Every year the number of peduncles increases, so the plant becomes more beautiful. Each inflorescence blooms for several weeks, emits nectar and produces a wonderful aroma.
After the buds appear in spring and flowering begins, plant is not recommended to touch or rearrange from place to place, otherwise buds and already blossoming flowers will begin to fall off. By the way, hoya blooms only when the branches reach 30 cm in length.
In order that the hoya grows well and blossoms, it you need to find the most convenient place in your home. Since this plant loves bright light,the sunny east and west window it will feel perfect. But on the northern windows hoya blooms worse, and even does not bloom at all. Like all indoor plants, hoyu must be protected from direct sunlight.
The place for her should be warm, well ventilated, but without drafts. After flowering, in autumn, hoya prefers coolness - about 10-15 C.
The plant needs regular spraying, but this procedure must be done carefully - that the water does not fall on the flowers and buds.
From spring to autumn, hoyu should be well watered. This should be done as soon as the upperlayer of soil. In winter, plants need less watering, although everything depends on the temperature of the air in the room. Before and during flowering Hoyu watered 3 times a week. After flowering, watering is reduced to 1 time in 10 days. Hoyi is much easier to tolerate some drying of the soil than excess moisture. You can also put hoyu on a pallet with water. It is desirable to water plants with soft and standing water.
Transplanted plants are recommended every 2-3 years, in the spring and preferably in a period of active growth.
Soil for planting hoyi can be prepared such: 1 part of perlite or vermiculite, 1 part of fine claydite, 1 part of moss-sphagnum or peat, 2 parts of usual soil for plants. It is necessary to ensure good drainage.
Also for different species of this plant, you canuse different mixtures. For example, the soil for hoya fleshy: 2 parts sod, 1 part humus, 1 part peat, 1 part leaf earth and 1 part sand. The soil for the hoya is beautiful: 1 part of leaf land, 1 part of chopped fern roots, 1 part of peat land, with the addition of charcoal and sand.
It is important to feed hoyu with mineral fertilizers. This should be done from March to August every2 weeks and use a liquid fertilizer for indoor plants. For hoya a fleshy dose, you need to take 2 times less from the recommended by the manufacturer. Hoyu fine feed in accordance with the instructions.
