Cyclamen at home

Cyclamen - The plant is very unusual. 8-9 months of the year he is in a "sleepy" state, completely dropping flowers and leaves. And only for 3 months it begins to bubble with life.
As a rule, out of 60 existing cyclamen species, in the room conditions only 2 species are grown. This cyclamen is Persian and cyclamen is European. Cyclamen Persian blooms in winter, in summer it has a rest period. Therefore, at this time, when everything is gray and pale, it will give you a real holiday, blossoming with bright, colorful inflorescences. Cyclamen European on the contrary - in the winter rests, and blossoms in the summer.
Flowers in these plants are pointed, curvedback. The colors can be the most diverse: white, all shades of pink and red, purple, there are hybrids with terry petals. Dark green leaves are located on long petioles and have a decorative grayish-silvery pattern.
Flowering lasts quite a long time. The Persian variety, depending on the conditions, blossoms from late October to the end of March.
It is best to buy cyclamen in the fall, at the beginningflowering. It is desirable that the plant has a sufficiently large number of buds. Pay attention also to the leaves of the plant and the tuber. Leaves should not be damaged, sluggish and withered around the edges, and the tuber - wrinkled and rotten.
There is an opinion that cyclamen is enoughcapricious and requiring special care plant. But it is not so. Of course, efforts for its growth and development will have to be applied, but not any supernatural. Everything is quite simple, if you follow the established rules.
A common mistake with flower growers is the complete instillation of a tuber plant. Cyclamen does not like this. It feels better when one-third of the tuber is above the surface of the soil. And these plants prefer small pots. In large plants they bloom poorly, and sometimes tubers can start to rot.
Cyclamens of all kinds like cool rooms. Ideal for them is a temperature of +17 C. At higher temperatures, the flowering period is drastically reduced.
A flowering plant needs a bright room, bright diffused light. When the plant fades, it must be moved to a shaded, cool place.
A plant in the period of active development and flowering needs regular good watering. Water should be carefully - so that the water does notfell on the middle of the rhizome, on the base of the leaves and on the buds. You can pour water into the edge of the pot, and even better to dip the pot into the water. Excess moisture can lead to decay of the tuber and the death of the cyclamen - so do not overdo it. In winter, during the rest period of the plant, the watering is reduced, the main thing is that the earth clod does not dry out much.
It is recommended to use soft water for irrigation. To boil it is not necessary, it is enough to defend it.
From time to time, the air around the pot should be sprayed or put the pot in wet moss.
Transplant cyclamen is recommended after the period of rest and before flowering. When transplanting the soil is replaced completely. To do this, use a mixture of: 2 parts of leaf, turf and peat, plus 1 part of sand. Transplant the plant, place it on a cool window sill, pour and feed.
If for some reason you can not transplant your cyclamen into a new land, then the top layer, in any case, needs to be replaced, leaving the top of the tuber on the surface.
During the period of leaf growth Before the flowering, the plants are fed every 2 weeks with a full mineral fertilizer. During flowering, the amount of fertilizer applied should be reduced.
