Burning on wood is one of the most popular folk crafts, deeply connected with the traditions of folk art. The art of decorative burning begantogether with other types of decorative processing of wood: carving, turning, painting on wood. Nowadays, burning is also used as an independent reception for the decoration of wooden products, and in combination with other decorative techniques.

Burning can receive very beautiful decorative effects and decorate in this way furniture, all kinds of caskets, plates, cutting boards, breadboxes, etc. In addition, with the help of burning out, you can make magnificent souvenirs that will become the highlight of the interior design in the ethno-style.

To burn out a special device is used - electric burner. Working element of electric igniter - handle withmetal pen on the end. The pen (pin) is made of nichrome wire of various thicknesses. Selecting the thickness of the pen, you can achieve different thickness lines in the patterns.

The burner is heated to a very high temperature, therefore, when working, it is necessary to observe safety precautions and avoid contact of parts of clothing or hair with the burner's feather!

How to work when burning on wood

For burning, it is necessary, first of all, to choose suitable wood. The best for burning out fit: linden, birch, alder, poplar, chestnut. These rocks are soft enough, light and have a more homogeneous fiber structure. As a basis, you can also use plywood - it is most suitable for beginners due to its cheapness.

Before burning, the surface of the wood must be treated: cicle, sand with sandpaper anddesire to grind the powder of chalk with water. The wood must be absolutely dry before starting the burning. Further on, the necessary pattern is applied to the surface. This can be done with ordinary carbon paper.

In addition, it is possible to paste a tissue paper with a pattern printed on it. As the paper is fired, the paper is removed. This method protects the treated surface from contamination.

The burner handle should be taken as an ordinary pencil. With the help of a temperature regulatorSet the desired degree of glow of the pen and you can start working. Determine the readiness of the pen to work by its color - the color should be dark red.

To produce fine lines, the burner's feather should be carried quickly, to obtain thick lines, it should be carried more slowly. Do not press the pen too hard against the surface of the wood, too slow the pen stroke. At the end of the reference line, the pen should be torn off from the surface by a rapid movement.

Burning should be simultaneously several differentsites. This is necessary in order to avoid the appearance of intermediate burns, which are formed due to strong heating of wood when burning adjacent areas of the pattern. therefore it is necessary to return to the burning out of neighboring sites only after a while - that the wood managed to cool down.

Changing the slope and glow of the pen, you can getDifferent in thickness and color of the line: from light brown to dark. However, too charred edges of the scorched groove indicate too high feather temperature.

Finished work should be carefully processed with fine-grained sandpaper. After that, work can be painted with watercolor, oil or acrylic paints, covered with wax or varnish.
