Phalaenopsis transplant

Orchids as houseplants appearedrelatively recently, but already won a lot of fans. They are effective and undemanding in care. One of the most beautiful orchids grown in room conditions is Phalaenopsis. A transplant is not required if the plant is healthy and blooms. When the substrate becomes useless (in 2-3 years), i.e. becomes fragile, acquires a dark shade and an unpleasant smell - that's when you need to make a transplant.

How to transplant Phalaenopsis

Phalenopsis pot is recommended plastic, transparent. It is believed that the roots are best developed in the light, in addition, it is so convenient to observe their condition.

Soil for orchids consists of the following components:

  • crushed wood bark;

  • perlite;

  • charcoal;

  • sphagnum.

Their proportions depend on the conditions of detentionphalaenopsis. So, if there is dryness of the medium - the volume of sphagnum should be 1/3, but if the humidity is high enough - the moss is added in the minimum amount.

If you make a substrate for orchids problematic, you can purchase a ready-made mixture for epiphytes.

Phalaenopsis transplant

For transplantation phalaenopsis is removed from the pot, withroots gently shake off the old soil. The roots of the plant are rinsed with warm water. After this, they must be thoroughly inspected and all damaged and dead areas removed. In neglected cases, when the plant is in a serious condition, it is necessary to remove most of its root system. It is good then to sprinkle the roots with crushed coal or an antiseptic.

In the selected pot, a freshsoil, then there is placed the root system. All evenly, on all sides sprinkled with fresh soil and gently pressed. Air roots, which were located above the surface of the pot, should remain in the same position and after transplantation. It is important to ensure that the growth point is not covered with earth. If necessary, phalaenopsis gently strengthened in the ground with wooden sticks.

Phalaenopsis after transplantation

After transplantation, it is necessary to observe closelyfor the plant. A healthy, strong indoor flower usually feels good, adapts quickly and begins to grow. Watering it occurs in normal mode.

If phalaenopsis was originally inpoor state and during the transplantation lost a significant part of the roots - he needs a little more attention, caring. The first thing that needs to be done is to create the required moisture level of the environment. The easiest way to do this is by placing the plant together with the pot in a plastic transparent bag. There it will still grow, but you need to arrange periodic airing.
