June 12 - Day of Russia

Russia Day Since 1992, it has been annually celebrated as a national holiday of the Russian Federation. The beginning of this holiday was laid in honor of the day of adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the RSFSR.
Declaration on State Sovereignty of the RSFSR was adopted 12 June 1990 First Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR and until 1998The holiday was called the Day of adoption of the declaration on the state sovereignty of Russia. With the adoption of the new Labor Code in 2002, a new name, Day of Russia, was formally established.
Day of Russia is one of the "youngest"public holidays. It is interesting that many citizens of the country called Russia Day as Russia's Independence Day, although this common wording has never been used in official documents.
On June 12, some cities of the Russian Federation, inin particular, Perm, Izhevsk, Tambov, Ufa, Surgut, Syktyvkar and Krasnoyarsk, celebrate the City Day. Therefore, the population marks a "double date" with local festive events.
Traditionally Day of Russia is celebrated various entertainment activities: concerts, competitions and, of course, a grandiose festive salute. In Moscow, the Day of Russia 2010 will be celebrated with the traditional "Kremlin Mile" race and the Russian Championship in running a mile along the highway. The traffic on the central part of Moscow will be limited from 8 am to the end of the events.
Also residents and guests of the capital can visitan international festival of drifting, which will be held on Lubyanka Square, an open interregional festival of author's song in the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. In the Strogin floodplain there will be a regatta "Cup of light schooners". In addition, cultural events for the veterans will take place in the capital, charity events for the low-income will be held.
In the evening on the Red Square will be a grand concert with the participation of modern pop stars.
