Cat and mouse: kitten, birds and rodents in the house

By their nature, cats are predators and hunted forthem naturally. Therefore, no matter how you try to explain to the cat that the bird is not food, it will still continue to hunt. All kinds of decorative rodents, for example, mice, hamsters, rats or guinea pigs, can become victims of the cat's hunting instinct, even if the kitten is not hungry.

Kitten and rodents

If the rodent is small, for example, it is decorativemouse, then the kitten can easily strangle such prey. But the rodent is larger, for example, a rat, can easily "beat off" the kitten with sharp teeth and claws.

The little kitten is still stupid: he knows that rodents are his prey, but he does not know that danger can come from them. Therefore, a curious fluffy lump will certainly want to train your hunting "skills" on your rodent.

To avoid any kind of trouble, betterMaximize the access of the kitten to the cage or aviary where your rodent is kept. Do not leave the cage door open, even if you are not afraid that the rodent will run away.

Do not scold the kitten if he tried to "hunt"on the rodent. Firstly, his kitten instincts can not overcome, and, secondly, he will not understand why you punish him, because he acts according to the program inherent in it by nature itself.

Kitten and birds

A bird for a kitten is just as tempting a prey as a mouse.

If a bird lives in your house and you decideget a kitten, then you should take care of the safety of both. The kitten is unlikely to harm the bird while it is in the cage, but if you let the bird fly around the room, then it is better to leave the kitten in some other room for this time.

Nature provided birds with protection againstpredators. Birds have powerful hard beaks, which they can strike at the moment of danger to the attacker. A small kitten, most likely out of curiosity, will put a paw or muzzle in a cage, for which it risks getting a very tangible blow. Especially dangerous for a kitten is the blow with a large beak of a cockatoo - from such a blow the kitten can even die.

Therefore, your task is to install a cage with a birdout of reach of the kitten. You can put the cage on a stand-alone high tumbler or table, and you can also hang the cage to the ceiling. If you do not have such an opportunity, then make sure that the distance between the rods of the cage is minimal - then the cat's foot or muzzle in the cage simply does not get through.

There is an interesting way to ward off a kitten fromattempts to penetrate the bird cage. Enough to surround the cage with objects that, when dropped, create a lot of noise. This noise will scare the kitten. You can also try to get the kitten to sprinkle a little water on it. Such a "shower" will also scare off the kitten.

Examples of touching friendship between cats andhome decorative rodents or birds are known, but this, rather, is an exception to the rules. Even if, up to a certain point, the kitten did not show interest in "game", there are no guarantees that in the future he will not like to eat his neighbor.
