How to determine the sex of guinea pig yourself
Because guinea pigs are fairly miniaturecreation, it is difficult to determine their gender "by sight". Clearly expressed sexual signs they can be found only in adulthood, but in fact more often these cute pets are bought still small.
Naturally, if you acquire an animalfor solitary confinement, then sex does not play a special role. Behavior in males and females is very similar, so the only difference is how you will call your pet. However, it is more often recommended to have a couple of guinea pigs, and here the definition of sex plays a serious role.
After all, as a rule, they take together same-sexanimals and nobody wants to know one day that one of your "boys" is pregnant. Also, some rodent owners prefer to purchase exclusively males due to the fact that in some cases the female can be sold already pregnant.
Such situations often arise whenanimals are sold not in specialized stores, but in markets or irresponsible breeders, who keep the opposite-sex pigs in one cage, which leads to uncontrolled mating.
For any guinea pig the first pregnancy -this is a fairly serious test, which is difficult enough to tolerate even adult specimens, while in immature individuals it can even lead to death. Therefore, before buying it is recommended to carefully inspect the animal, especially if you do not buy it in a specialized store, where all the conditions for guinea pigs are created, and with hands.
The easiest way to determine the sex of the seamumps itself is that the animal is turned on its back to see its belly. Next, you need to visually assess the distance from the urethra to the anus. As a rule, in males this distance is much larger and more noticeable.
However, when studying in this way quitesmall animals can be quite difficult with absolute certainty of what sex the guinea pig is. There is another way to learn the sex of guinea pig, however, since it involves a physical effect on the animal, then it should be used with extreme caution.
To do this, the pig, again, needs to be turned over,so that the genitals are well visible. Next, you need to gently and lightly push the lower abdomen, in the immediate vicinity of the genitals. After such manipulations, if done correctly, the female will show a Y-shaped gap, but the male will see the penis.
This method of determining the sex is appliedbreeders for more than one decade and always gives a virtually one hundred percent guarantee of correct sex determination. It is worth noting that some try to distinguish the sex of guinea pigs by the presence or absence of their nipples.
Eit is fundamentally wrong, because both males and females of these animals have nipples, and their level of apparentness is approximately the same. Therefore, do not even try to apply this method to find out who is before you - a boy or a girl.
