Home remedy for mosquito protection
Flying insects are the scourge of summer. They are hardly saved even by grids on the windows, and it seems that the only defense is not to open even the windows, which is impossible in the summer heat. And while working outdoors or walking in nature, people would be in front of them and completely defenseless, if they did not use special means for protection - repellents that need to be sprayed onto the skin, if they are made in the form of a spray, or spread on it like ointment or milk. As a rule, the protective equipment from mosquitoes and other insects bought in the store is effective enough, but you never know for sure what is included in their composition. It is better to make a means to protect yourself from mosquitoes, using natural ingredients.
To make a spray from mosquitoes, take:
- essential oils (citrus, lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree, cinnamon, eucalyptus, cedar, valerian, mint, lavender, cloves);
- witch hazel;
- distilled water (can be used and boiled);
- vegetable glycerin (optional);
- bottle with a nebulizer.
What should be done:
- fill the bottle with the sprayer with water to half;
- pour the witch hazel almost to the top;
- add half a teaspoon of glycerin;
- add 30-50 drops of essential oils. The more oils, the safer the spray will repel insects. It is not necessary to take exactly those in the list;
- mix thoroughly, shaking the bottle several times, and the spray can already be used.
Other recipes for mosquito spray
Of course, this is not the only possible option. Spray can be done in other ways.
Spray with herbs
Essential oils can be replaced with dry or fresh herbs. In this case, take:
- distilled water;
- hamamelis or alcohol (the second is more effective, but the first smells more pleasant and safe for children and sensitive skin);
- herbs: Peppermint, valerian, mint, lemongrass, lavender, etc. When picking up the herbs, do not forget that the best effect can be achieved by using at least one kind of mint in a bark - it repels insects well;
- bottle with a nebulizer.
To make this spray:
- Boil 140 g of water and add 3-4 tablespoons of herbs in any combination (1 spoon of mint is recommended among them).
- Stir, cover and let cool. Be sure to cover the pan or bowl - otherwise useful substances will evaporate.
- Strain the water and mix it with witch hazel or alcohol. Pour the mixture into a bottle and put it in a cool place or even in the refrigerator (but not in the freezer). Done.
In addition to its useful properties of repellent, this kind of spray is a good refresher for the skin.
Superstrong mixture for repelling insects
This recipe is based on an ancient recipe of travelers of the Middle Ages, who tried to protect themselves from the plague. They accepted it both internally and externally, but of course it is not worth drinking such a mixture.
What will be required:
- 1 bottle of apple cider vinegar;
- 2 tablespoons dried rosemary, lavender, mint and cumin;
- a glass jar with a volume of at least 1 liter. with a tight-fitting, vacuum lid;
- bottles with nozzles;
- water.
To make it:
- Lay the herbs and pour the vinegar into the jar.
- Close as tightly as possible and put in a dark cool place for 2-3 weeks. Shake the jar well every day.
- At the end of this time, strain the mixture, removing the herbs, and pour into bottles with nozzles, filling each half. The remainder is added with water, shake it thoroughly several times.
Use on the skin can only mix with water,For processing, for example, doors and windows, it can not be diluted. Be careful! The vinegar is very corrosive. This option is not suitable for nursery or sensitive skin. And yet - it is effective, but the smell is not the most pleasant.
A few ideas for home insect sprays:
- add vanilla extract in any spray or just rub the skin with vanilla - it scares off mosquitoes. You can simply use a mixture of vanilla, witch hazel and water as a spray;
- flowers of lavender, if you are on the nature and there is no other way of protection, also a good natural repellent. Rub them on the skin;
- mint has the same properties as basil. Plant them in your dacha under the windows to drive away the insects and prevent them from flying into the house.
