Contrary to the name, the tea tree has not the slightest relation to tea. Wood of melaleuca (namely, this scientific name is a tea tree) grows in Australia. His closest relatives are not a tea bush, but eucalyptus, myrtle, guava, feijoa and clove.



The tea tree was named this plant by Captain JamesCook, because when brewing the leaves of melaleuki, a drink was obtained, similar to tea, with a pleasant taste and a refreshing, spicy aroma. Australian aborigines used tea trees for treatment of skin diseases, colds and coughs.



From the leaves of melaleuky extract essential oiltea tree. Its smell somewhat resembles camphor and eucalyptus, but it is more acute. To obtain a few drops of essential oil, it is required to process several kilograms of leaves. The oil is extracted by evaporation. Essential oil of tea tree is famous for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect. Tea tree oil disinfects, kills germs, reduces inflammation and pain. It stimulates the growth and renewal of cells, accelerating healing, and also draws pus from wounds and abscesses.



Essential oil of tea tree, like other essential oils, can not be used in its pure form. If you apply it externally for treatmentacne, wounds, cuts, insect bites, skin diseases, it must be mixed with a fatty oil-base. As a basis, you can use, for example, olive, soy or corn oil.



Tea tree oil can be used for treatment of diseases of the oral cavity: inflammation of the gums, abscesses and sores, etc. Again, not in its pure form: the affected area is smeared with a mixture of fatty base oil with tea tree oil. In this case, you can use oil and as a rinse in a mixture with water. Swallow this mixture can not! Baths with tea tree oil help fight fungal diseases of the legs. Effectively, this oil and in the treatment of herpes zoster and ringworm in a mixture with the base fatty oil.

But this essential oil has its own contraindications. It is not advised to use it for pregnant women, children under six years old, people with very sensitive skin and individual intolerance to tea tree oil. True, the intolerance of this oil is quite rare: in most cases it does not have an irritating effect.



The oil can not be used inside and undesirableused undiluted. Avoid contact with tea tree oil in the eyes. An overdose of oil is harmful to health. Store the oil in a cool place in a tightly closed container from a dark stack, because in air it oxidizes and loses its bactericidal properties.
