Canon-Eos-550d

Canon traditionally transfers new technologies and functions from advanced professional models to less expensive lines.

In accordance with this concept, the camera EOS 550D iFCL exposure metering system, for the first timeimplemented in EOS 7D. The novelty for the EOS platform is the ability to adjust the upper limit of the automatic ISO sensitivity, which allows you to control the maximum noise level in the pictures.

The EOS 550D makes Canon's productive shooting technology more affordable for consumers. Advanced image processor Canon DIGIC 4 and a matrix with a resolution of 18 megapixels supportstandard ISO sensitivity settings in the range of 100 to 6400 (expandable to 12 800), and an improved built-in noise reduction system improves performance in low light conditions.

Smooth gradation and naturalness of colors, which play a big role in printing and viewing on the monitor, are provided by 14-bit image processing.

Smooth and accurate focusing in the EOS 550D is provided by a 9-point AF system with one ultra-sensitive center-cross hitch for lenses with a f / 2.8 aperture and more luminous ones.

The EOS 550D also supportshigh-speed continuous shooting at a rate of 3.7 frames per second. These functions provide more effective control of the filming process, allowing you to act easily and accurately when the bill goes for a fraction of a second.

The innovation for the EOS platform was the possibility High ISO limit setting, which allows you to control the maximumnoise level in the pictures. For the first time in the history of EOS cameras of the initial class, exposure compensation can be changed by plus / minus five steps, and bracketing - by plus / minus two steps, respectively.

This allows photographers to perform multiple images with different exposure values to ensure quality even in difficult lighting conditions.

"Photographic capabilities of digital SLRscameras have captured the imagination of people around the world, "said Kieran Magee, head of product planning at Canon's European Consumer Products Division. - Every year more and more consumers express their desire to shoot key events of their lives with unsurpassed quality, as well as to check and develop their creative potential.

Description of technologies

Canon CMOS Matrix

Created by Canon and working togetherwith DIGIC processors Canon CMOS matrix is equipped with an advanced noise reduction scheme at each pixel area, which allows to obtain images with practically zero noise level. In comparison with CCD technology, CMOS matrixes are characterized by lower power consumption, which increases the battery life.

In the Canon CMOS matrix, the signal is convertedseparate amplifiers located at each pixel site. Thus, it is possible to avoid unnecessary stages in the process of charge transfer and to speed up the transmission time of the signal to the image processor. This allows you to reduce noise, limit power consumption and improve the speed of shooting.

DIGIC PROCESSORS

Before writing to the memory card, the image data received by the CMOS matrix is processed by the built-in DIGIC image processor.

DIGIC technology uses advanced algorithmsimage processing, allowing to obtain natural colors, accurate white balance and improved noise reduction. Ultra-fast processing speed ensures high sensitivity of the camera and almost instantaneous inclusion.

DIGIC processors work with high-speedimage buffer - read, process, compress and write data fast enough for the buffer to remain free during long continuous shooting with the series. Power consumption is minimized, since the DIGIC processor combines all the main processing functions.

Metering system for 63 iFCL zones with dual-layered sensor

The iFCL system uses focus data, color and brightness for the detection of continuously exposed frames. All focus points provide distance data for the measurement system in order to determine the distance to the object and calculate the exposure in accordance with the algorithm.

Model EOS 550D is equipped with a new measuring sensorExposure to 63 zones, compatible with nine AF points. As a rule, the measuring sensors are more sensitive to objects of red color, which can cause overexposure.

In EOS 550D devices, this problem is fixed withusing a two-layer sensor in which one layer reacts to red and green colors, and the other to blue and green. The measurement algorithm compares the readings of two layers and changes the instrument reading accordingly.

Built-in EOS cleaning system

Built-in cleaning system EOS fights dust on the matrix in three ways: preventing the appearance of dust, repelling and eliminating it.
Preventing the appearance of dust: The internal elements of the camera are designed in such a way as to reduce the likelihood of dust. The camera body is designed to prevent the appearance of dust when worn.

Dust repulsion: The low-pass filter located in front of the image matrix is created using an antistatic material, so it repels dust.
Dust removal: The self-cleaning image array uses high-frequency oscillations to "shake" the dust from the infrared filter for about one second after each switch-on. For instant start of shooting after camera activation, this function is immediately disabled when the shutter is released.

Canon also developed the internal Dust systemDelete Data, which determines the position of visible dust particles on the image matrix. After shooting, the traces of this dust can be automatically deleted from the image using the latest version of the Digital Photo Professional software.

Clear View LCD

The EOS 550D is equipped with a Clear View LCD witha diagonal of 3.0 inches (7.7 cm), a 3: 2 aspect ratio, a resolution of 720x480 pixels and a number of 1040 thousand pixels. This allows for detailed viewing of images and ultra-precise focusing.

Thanks to a wide 160-degree corner of the fieldimages Clear View LCD is perfectly distinguishable in different environments, and shadows and reflections are removed through the unique dual anti-reflective coating developed by Canon. The combination of functions allows you to take photos even in the most difficult angles.

Shooting video in EOS

The EOS video shooting function enables users of the EOS 550D to record HD 1080p video clips, manually adjusting the settings and selecting shooting speeds.

Due to the large size of the built-in matrixCMOS (22.3 x 14.9 mm) photographers can more accurately control the depth of field. Exposure of video frames can be controlled in manual mode with full control over shutter speed and aperture.

The frame rate is selected from the followingof the range: 30 (29,97), 25 and 24 (23,976), and the available at 720p values of 60 (59,94) and 50. The program mode allows photographers to easily shoot HD video without worrying about the exposure settings. This is the ideal solution for cases where the bill is for a split second.

When shooting more distant objects, the functionThe video card implemented in the EOS 550D model allows the center of the sensor to be used at a resolution of 640x480 pixels, and thus to increase the image approximately seven times.

Picture Style settings

Picture Style function with preliminaryinstalled modes greatly simplifies the quality control of images in the camera. Preset Picture Style modes can be compared with different types of film, having a different level of sensitivity. Within each preset mode, you can adjust the sharpness, contrast, tone and color saturation.

The factory settings of the camera allow you to quicklyStart working with JPEG images without having to make additional settings in the menu. When shooting in RAW format, the preset Picture Style modes allow you to edit the resulting images using Canon's Digital Photo Professional software.

Six pre-set shooting modes include the following.

  • Standard: provides a bright and reliable color transfer, does not require subsequent processing.

  • Portrait: optimizes the tone and color saturation, reduces the sharpness of the image to obtain a pleasant skin tone.

  • Landscape: increases the saturation of green and blue, as well as sharpness, providing a clearer image of mountains, trees and outlines of buildings.

  • Neutral: ideal for post-treatment.

  • Plausible: adjusts the color during shooting at a color temperature below 5200 K.

  • Monochrome: suitable for monochrome shooting using various filters (yellow, orange, red and green) and toning (sepia, blue, purple and green).
