July 1, 2012 - Marine and River Fleet Workers Day

On the first Sunday of July, workers of the sea and river fleet celebrate their professional holiday. In 2012 Day of workers of sea and river fleet falls on 1 July.
Seaman's profession was always shrouded in a halo of romance: boundless sea spaces, salty air of freedom, travel to exotic countries. Many people have been pestering the sea since childhood: probably, in each yard there is a boy who dreams of becoming a brave captain of long voyages.
Earlier ships were almost the only kindtransport, allowing to travel to distant countries, separated by a water obstacle (not for nothing these countries were called overseas). Great Britain was one of the most influential states thanks to its fleet, which allowed it to acquire a large number of colonies on other continents and win the status queen of the seas.
Now you can get to another continent by plane, but so far sea and river transport remains one of the most important sectors of the economy, allowing you to deliver goods to any placecountry and carry out international trade turnover, and its role as passenger transport is still significant. And great merit in this belongs to many generations of workers in the fleet, who devoted their entire lives to work in this industry.
History of the Russian Navy begins at the end of the XVII century, when at the shipyardsVoronezh Admiralty built the first ships for the blockade of the Turkish fortress of Azov. Thus, the first in the history of Russia regular naval fleet was laid. The Navy Day is celebrated since 1939, but the Day of Maritime and River Fleet Workers was established much later, in 1980, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On Festive and Memorable Days".
If among your acquaintances there are sailors or river guidesany fleet (trade, passenger, icebreaker), ship repairmen or port workers - in short, people of any profession whose activities are somehow connected with the sea or river fleet - do not forget congratulate them on a professional holiday. Their work is not only very romantic, but also very difficult, and on such a day one can not leave them without sincere congratulations.
Congratulations on the Day of Maritime and River Fleet Workers
