The ancestor of this breed is considered homelessa cat named Blueberry (Blackberry). The hostess who picked it up, thought that the shortness of her cat appeared as a result of a severe illness or injury. To her surprise, the kittens of this cat had the same short paws.



The breed of munchkin cats takes its name from the book "The Wizard of Oz" by Frank Baum. So the writer called in his work a people of little men. And in Germany the Munchkins are called "cat-kangaroo". And all because of its distinctive feature sit on the hind legs, firmly leaning on the tail, and look around. In such a convenient position for them, they can remain very long.



Munchkins have a calm, friendly character. They very kind and get on well with other pets. Cats of this breed are very devoted to their masters, therefore they are excellent pets for those who often travel on business trips.



Also the munchkins are very treat children well. Since these cats are very patient and kind,allow you to swaddle yourself, put in typewriters and even dig in the sandbox. True, despite such a meek character, the Munchkins can always stand up for themselves.

The fact is that, unlike the same rates, in which their shortness of lead led to a decrease in the flexibility of the spine and joint mobility, the mutchin mutation did not deprive them of their natural grace and mobility. They easily slip into any slit, very quickly run around (even faster than conventional rocks), gracefully dodge in a jump. One of their drawbacks is that they can not jump very high. And the rest of the munchkin is not inferior to other cats.



Munchkins are strong health. Since domestic cats were used for their breeding, their genotype is very diverse and they are not subject to genetic diseases, which are often found in pedigreed cats. At the very beginning, when only the first cats of this breed appeared, animal advocates protested against breeding munchkin, suggesting that such a mutation could cause them physical discomfort. But after a survey of representatives of this breed, veterinarians said that these cats do not feel any discomfort and are absolutely healthy.



Color breeds of cats munchkin amazes with its diversity: sepia, color-point, variations of the color of Siamesecats, mink. Were also rare species of color: ticked tabby, zinc, cinnamon. Longhaired Munchkins show off smoky, silvery and multicolored colors.



The body of Munchkin has elongated shape, quite elegant. Hind legs slightly longer than front, because of what the croup is slightly elevated. The tail is of medium length, tapering to the tip. At the moment, this breed is bred only in the nurseries of Holland, France and Switzerland. And in Russia in the kennel "Alexander Fred" the first Munchkin was brought only in 2001.
