Doman's Methodology

Doman's method causes ambiguous attitude of teachers and parents. This is not surprising, because initiallyAmerican physician-physiotherapist Glen Doman worked on the development of restorative techniques for children with developmental delays, and then used his experience as a base for teaching and developing techniques for ordinary children.
Doman's method is based on early learning. According to Doman, the child's brain is programmedon learning from birth, and you need to teach the child in the period of intensive brain growth, in the early years of his life. The more intense the load, the better the brain develops. At this age (up to six years) the child does not need additional motivation, the main thing is to correctly organize the learning process. You can start training at the age of 3-6 months.
Doman believes that any knowledge and skill is based on facts, therefore Doman's method aims at teaching the child precise, clear, authentic and interesting facts. These facts are systematized according to the knowledge sections(biology, mathematics, literature ...), categories (for example, in biology: insects, animals, plants) and bits (photographs of animals / plants). Each bit (a piece of information) is pasted onto a 28x28 cm card. On the back of the card, its name is signed - a clear fact without subjective evaluation. Such cards were called Doman cards.
During the child's occupation show cards (not giving them in hand), pronouncing their names. Cards should be shown quickly, literally on1-2 seconds. At a time, Doman recommends showing 5 cards of 5 categories (25 bits in total), making at least three hits a day. Gradually, you need to increase the number of categories and the tempo of the show, and also replace the already acquired bits with new ones. It is better to start with the facts with which the child somehow encounters in life or in games, songs and fairy tales. Classes with cards are well supported by reading books.
Doman's method puts the earlyteaching reading and math. Doman is sure that starting to teach the child to read a year or even earlier - teaching reading will become an impetus to further development. Teaching reading on Doman reduces to the mechanical memorization of words - sothe child immediately learns to read whole words, bypassing reading by letters and syllables. As a benefit, Doman's cards are again used: the child is shown several times a day written in large red letters on cards.
Also, Doman pays much attention to teaching math. He proposes to replace the abstract numbers, which the child is difficult to understand, cards with a certain number of points (circles). The child is shown a card with dots and is called how many dots on it are depicted. As a result of a regular display, the child will learn by eye to determine the number of points without recounting and perform arithmetic operations in the mind.
In addition, the Doman method presupposes mastering of general encyclopaedic knowledge from 10 main branches (mathematics, applied sciences, biology, human physiology, geography, history, literature, languages, art, music). As explained above, the industries are divided into categories, categories - bits, the assimilation of bits occurs when displaying cards. Also, Doman developed his own system of physical development.
Doman's methodology was exposed and subjected tocriticism up to now. Some scientists believe that it is based on simplified and outdated ideas about the child's developmental psychology. In addition, they indicate that Doman frankly compares the human brain with a computer and reduces learning to the assimilation of ordered facts, forgetting about the development of thinking (imaginative and logical), imagination.
Only parents can decide whether to tryteach the child by this method. Someone thinks that there is no need to start teaching a child so early - he will already learn everything that is needed when the time comes. And someone is sure that Doman's method helps educate geeks and Nobel laureates. So it's up to you. Moreover, Doman's method, like other methods (for example, the Montessori method), is not necessarily to be used in pure form, it is possible borrow some elements - if only it would benefit the child.
