How to choose wheels for a car
Correctly matched high-quality car disks are a guarantee of your safety on the road and a long service life of the transmission, so you can not treat the choice of disks negligently. How to choose the wheels for the car?

Deciding to pick up the wheels on the car, the first thing you need to decide on the type of disc. The two most common types of discs are alloy wheels and forged ones. They differ in the way they are made, fromnames it is clear that this can be casting or forging. Cast discs are lighter, and also cheaper, because there is less waste when casting than when forging. Forged wheels are more durable and resistant to deformation, but at the same time they are heavier and more expensive to stand. Now most motorists prefer alloy wheels.

Having decided on the type, you can proceed with the selection of specific disks. To pick up the wheels on the car, you need to pay attention to a few important points. The first parameter of the selection of disks is the width of the rim. It depends on the width of the profile of the tire. The width of the rim should be 25-30% less than the width of the tire profile. To find out the width of the rim, the width of the tire profile in millimeters should be divided by 25.4 (because the rim width is measured in inches). Then from the received number it is necessary to take away 25-30% and round it up to the nearest value from the standard series. The tolerance is not more than an inch for discs with a mounting diameter of 14 inches or less and 1.5 inches for discs with a mounting diameter of 15 inches or more.

The second parameter is the diameter of the disk. It can range from 10 to 19 inches (mostcommon diameters are 13, 14, 15, 16). The mounting diameter of the disc is indicated in the vehicle's passport. Some motorists use low and ultra-low-end tires to improve their driving qualities and therefore put discs with a mounting diameter 1 inch larger than the standard one. In this case, you need to put light alloy wheels, because steel will increase the mass of the wheel, and this is highly undesirable.

To properly select the wheels for the car, you also need to pay attention to the diameter of the location of the mounting holes (pitch circle diameter, PCD) and their number. Marking the PCD100 / 4 means that the diskthere are four mounting holes, the diameter of each is 100 m. Do not choose "by eye": the difference in diameter of a couple of millimeters may be imperceptible, but the wheel landing on the hub will be incomplete and the wheel will "beat on the move" and the nuts will be unscrewed, because the fasteners will remain unresponsive.

The next parameter is the diameter of the central hole of the disk. When buying, you may find that hewill be more than full-time. This is because manufacturers are trying to make universal disks suitable for different models of cars. In this case, a set of adapter rings must be attached to the disk. And in this case, the centering of the wheel will not be along the central hole, but along the mounting holes.

Another parameter of the selection of disks is the outreach of the wheel. The distance is called the distance between the fasteningplane of the wheel and the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the rim. It is negative (the hub is recessed relative to the middle of the rim), zero and positive (the hub protrudes outwards). German manufacturers designate ET flight, French ones - DEPORT, international designation - OFFSET.

Correctly designed outreach provides optimum stability and controllability of the car and the lowest load on the bearings of the hubs. Do not put wheels on the car with a freighter - this will overload the suspension and bearings of the hubs (if the departure is too small), and it is impossible to physically increase the flight, because the disc with too much overhang will rest on the brake.

Finally, pay attention to sizes of wheel bolts and nuts. The fastener should fit exactly to the new disk. If you, say, change a steel disk to light alloy, the old fasteners to it will not approach.

Having decided to pick up the wheels on the car, do not forget about these nuances. But better additionally hedge and use the online service of selection of discs by car brand or size, such services are offered by many websites selling auto parts.
