World Animal DayThe 4th of October - a special date for our smaller brothers, since it is on this day that they celebrate World Animal Day. The decision to celebrate this holiday was taken in 1931 in Florence, Italy, at the International Congress of Supporters of the Movement for the Protection of Nature.

The date of October 4 was chosen not without purpose. Catholics around the world praise Francis of Assisi(1181 (82) - 1226), the patron saint of animals, and October 4 is the day of his death. On this day, the Catholic churches of countries hold services dedicated to World Animal Day.

World Animal Day encourages us to remember the environment and protect all our smaller brothers. After all, all animals, whether domestic or wild, have their rights to life. It's not unfortunate, but people forget about animals in everyday routine and fast pace of life. And according to WWF statistics, 3 species of animals disappear daily from the face of the planet Earth. More than 70 representatives of flora and fauna disappear hourly. Over the past 25 years, the biological diversity of our planet has been reduced by one-third. The world stock of fish does not have time to recover naturally, because every year humanity uses it to 70%.

Annually 66 countries of the world hold various events on the World Animal Day. And every year the number of participating countries is growing. And in Russia this date is celebrated, beginning in 2000.

On World Animal Day it is worth remembering about the numerous shelters that need any help. The money allocated by the state to theirthe content is often too small, so any charitable help to the local shelter will help many animals. If you decide to have a pet, go to a local shelter where you can choose a pet from a large number of disadvantaged cats and dogs.
