IMEI - International Mobile Equipment Identifier is a unique number consisting of 15 digits and allowing to identify mobile devices in GSM and UMTS networks.





IMEI serves to confirm the right legallyuse the phone on the territory of the state, and also allows mobile operators to disconnect the stolen or lost device from their network and thereby prevent its further use.


The IMEI code is set by the manufacturer and is indicated on the mobile phone package, on the sticker under the phone's battery, in the warranty card. Also, the IMEI code is "sewn" into the memory of the device, you can learn it by typing a combination: * # 06 #.




The codes ІМЕІІ, indicated on the phone package, on the sticker under the battery and "sewn" into the memory, must match!




You can change the IMEI of your phone only if youif this is required to repair the device. It is necessary to contact the authorized service center of the manufacturer, where after repair, the phone will be assigned another IMEI, confirmed by the manufacturer. Other ways to change IMEI are illegal!


Since March 28, 2009 in Ukraine import and sale of mobile terminals / phones are prohibited without registration IMEI in the generalized database. The IMEI database is maintained by a state enterprise "Ukrainian State Center of Radio Frequencies" (UGCR).


Phones, legally imported to Ukraine, are registered in this database and are entered in the so-called "White list. Also, all telephones connected to the network automatically reached the "white" list before September 1, 2009.


Gray list This is a list of IMEI codes for phones that wereimported into the country unofficially. This can be "unlocked" or "reflashed" foreign devices, mobile devices received by individuals from relatives or friends in international mail, international express mail, bought in foreign online stores, etc.


The owner of the person who got into the "gray" list of the phone should receive from the operator an SMS-notification about the need to register the device in the IMEI database. If the legality of the "gray" phone will not be confirmed by the owner within 90 days from the date of registration of the phone in the cellular network, the operator at the end of this period is obligated to disconnect this phone from its network without warning.

Serve application for registering a phone in the IMEI database it is necessary in the following cases:



  • an independent purchase of a mobile phone abroad;
  • getting a free phone purchased abroad;
  • receiving a phone in international mail, international express mail
  • obtaining a mobile phone purchased in a foreign Internet store in an international postal mail.





To register the phone in these cases documents, confirming the identity of the owner of the phone, the fact of purchase, as well as the customs declaration or other customs documents established by law.


The recommended sample application for the registration of the IMEYI code in the database can be found on the official website of the State Enterprise UGTSR.


Attention! The law does not provide for the possibility of registering the IMEYI code of a phone purchased in Ukraine, including in Internet shops (shops of electronic commerce) in Ukraine, if this code is not available in the IMEI database.


The buyer must independently check the presence of the IMEYI code in the generalized database of IMEI terminal codes or require such verification from the seller!



    You can check the IMEYI code in two ways:


  1. Use the online service from the UGTSR
  2. Send SMS with the code ІМЕІ to the short number 307. The cost of sending - according to the tariffs of the operator as a usual SMS-message.

When using the online service of the UGTS, the following variants of the verification result are possible:



  • "The entered code '[IMEYI of the checked phone]' in the database is added to the '[white / gray / black]' list '
  • "The entered code '[ІМЕІ of the checked phone]' was not found in the database ІМЕІ»

Accepted designations:


White list - this is the number of telephones that have been legally imported to the territory of the country (within the permitting system).


Gray list - these are II phones, the origin of which on the territory of the country is unknown (imported illegally, imported by private persons, etc.).


Black list - these are II phones, which are currently banned for use on the territory of the country (which were declared as lost, stolen, with the wrong IMEI).


To check the IMEX code, enter in the online service field or in the SMS message field only numbers. Manufacturers of some models of mobile phones in the IMEI code use the service symbols, for example, "#" or "/". These symbols do not need to be entered during the IMEI check!


Phone models supporting 2 SIM cards have 2 codes ІМЕІ. You need to check each of them.
