How to care for laminated, wooden, parquet floors

Despite the abundance of modern materials on themarket, flooring from wood remain the most attractive. This is due to their durability and excellent appearance. Meanwhile, without proper care, even the best quality wood floor can lose its attractiveness or even fail. To ensure that this does not happen, it is necessary to observe fairly simple rules for the operation and maintenance of floor coverings.

How to care for laminate floors

Laminate floors are much more demanding incare, than, for example, parquet. This is due to the thickness of the laminate panels themselves and the material from which they are made (pressed wood fibers). In this regard, care for the laminate should be very good, so that this flooring has served for many years. First of all, it is necessary to make sure that the laminated floor has been laid out qualitatively, because, due to installation errors, serious problems can arise after two or three months of operation. In addition, when buying a laminate floor, it is recommended to leave several panels in stock, so that if necessary, you could replace the failed site.

With regular use of laminate it is necessaryclean with a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth. In this case, it is very important to ensure that the floor does not get a lot of water, because it can lead to bulging panels, scratches and other negative consequences. If you need to remove from the surface of serious pollution, for example, from shoe cream or a marker, you can use ordinary household soap or special means for laminate floors.

Do not try to use funds based onacetone, as they can damage the protective film, and then the destruction of the board material itself can begin. It is also not recommended to use various polishing agents for furniture or wax. To clean the surface it is best to use a soft rag and never use hard brushes. To eliminate minor damage (for example, from falling sharp objects), you can use a special paste in the tone of the coating. Eliminate large dents is almost impossible, so it is recommended to put a piece of felt or cardboard under the legs of heavy furniture.

How to care for parquet and wooden floors

Requirements for the care of wooden floors andparquet in many ways identical. The only difference is that the parquet is often covered with varnish, and the wood with paint. So we'll look at them together. Lacquer coating creates a protective layer on the surface of the wood and thereby prevents its damage and gives the floor a shine. At the same time, the oil coating provides much better protection, since it penetrates deep into the wood. As a result, the parquet becomes more wear-resistant and acquires a deeper and more saturated color.

Lacquer coating thickness from 4 mm can be grindedup to four times (this is done every few years or if there are visible damage to the coating). If your parquet is covered with oil, it must be covered with wax mastic or polish every six months (you can buy these materials in any building supermarket). For cleaning it is recommended to use a damp, well-wrung rag, a special mop or a vacuum cleaner.

When using parquet or wooden floorsAvoid getting a lot of water on them. If this happens, you must quickly wipe the surface with a dry cloth, so that not a drop of water remains on the floor. It is also necessary to ensure that sand does not get on the floor from shoes or pet paws, as it can scratch the coating. Most often, the wooden flooring (and parquet, among other things) deteriorates near the entrance door (from sand, moisture and dirt) and under furniture (from the wheel chairs, the legs of cabinets, etc.). To prevent such damage, it is best to use rubber mats and felt pads under the feet.
