The second claims that these dogs were brought to the islands from the Asian continent, and their ancestors were Siberian huskies crossed with Tibetan mastiffs.

In the middle of the XIX century they were actively crossed with English mastiffs, Danish danes, St. Bernards, bulldogs and local breeds - tosa-inu and karafuto. As a result, Akita became powerful dogs, which were excellent guards. It is believed that the modern breed of Akita dogs is the result of crossing precisely those times.
In the first half of the 20th century, the Akita Inu nearly disappeared altogether. The matter is that the tax on the maintenancedogs at home. In addition, the raging epidemic of rabies, during which the mass destruction of dogs, greatly reduced the number of animals. And only in the 30's it was decided to save this breed from its complete disappearance. Akita were recognized as Japanese property and a natural monument of Japan, and their export outside the country was categorically forbidden.
During the Second World War, Akit was confiscated from residents of the country. Their warm fur was so valuable that from itsewed uniforms for soldiers. To save dogs from destruction, owners crossed their pets with sheep dogs. As a result of pure-blood Akita Inu, there were only a few.

They have the features of guard dogs, as they were, in fact, before.

Such behavior can be caused by the desire to dominate among their relatives. Do not be afraid that Akita rush to all dogs. They always remain calm and unperturbed, but, recognizing an opponent, can manifest aggression. Other animals, in particular cats, do not show any emotion, because they quickly get tired of chasing them. The breed of dogs Akita is very clever, very quickly learns the training team. But because of his curiosity, he can be constantly distracted.
Contain Akita Inu can be both in the apartment and on the street. Their wool does not require special care. Only during moult they should be combed 3-4 times a week.
The most famous representative of this breed was a dog named Hachiko (Hachiko). He was the dog of Professor Eisaburo Ueno. Every day the professor had to travel by train to the agricultural station where he worked, and Khatiko accompanied him to the train and met him at the station in the evening. Once Eisaburo Ueno did not return home, he had a heart attack right at the university, where he died. On that day, his faithful Khatiko did not wait for the master, but nothing could stop him for another 9 years a day a day to go to the station and wait for the train on which the professor was supposed to arrive.
After the death of Khatiko, he was erected a monument - a tribute to loyalty and loyalty. Also this story became the basis of the Japanese film "Hachiko's History", which premiered on August 1, 1987.
