Drywall with own hands
Drywall - a beautiful modern material, widelyused in construction and repair. Plasterboard panels are perfect as an economical and quick way to hide uneven walls. One of the most convenient and popular methods of installing drywall is the installation of sheets of plasterboard on metal profiles. How to mount sheets of drywall yourself?
Typically, drywall is mounted on walls orceilings. When installing gypsum board on a wall, metal profiles of the type PN (guides) and PS (rack) are used. For the installation of drywall on the ceiling profiles of the type PP (ceiling) are used.
Installation of drywall is done as follows:
- Make a marking for the installation of metalprofiles. Vertical marking lines for placing the rack profiles are made on the width of the sheets of gypsum board so that the joint line of two adjacent sheets is located in the center of the profile. Lines of horizontal marking for guide profiles are determined based on the total thickness of the drywall sheet and the metal profile. On the floor mark the distance obtained by using a plumb line, the same distance is deposited on the ceiling. Having removed the thickness of the drywall from the distance obtained, you will receive the profile line of the profile.
- Before installation, those surfaces of load-bearing profiles that will be adjacent to the wall (ceiling) are recommended to be covered with rubber tape.
- Begin installing the guide rail on the floor. To do this, strictly according to the level, attach the profile to the wall along the intended line on the floor and with a carbide drill, drill the holes for the dowels in steps of 60-100 cm. After that, insert the dowels and fix the profile with screws. Repeat the operation for the guide profile on the ceiling.
- Before installing the rack-mount profiles, it is necessary to install direct mounts that have a rubber backing. Strengthen direct suspensions along the planned vertical lines with dowels and screws.
- After that, you can start installing the rackhangers. Fix them on the wall surface also with screws and dowels. Use self-tapping screws to fix the vertical rails to the horizontal guides.
- If desired, it is possible to insulate the space between the profiles with some insulation, for example, foam or mineral wool.
- Once all the profiles have been installed, you can proceedproper installation of plasterboard sheets. It is recommended to remove the bevel at an angle of 45 ° C before mounting on vertical joints to facilitate further processing of the sheets. Do not forget to pry or cut all the necessary holes for the sockets or switches in the sheets beforehand.
- Begin the installation of drywall sheet fromthe top corner of the frame, fixing it with screws with a step of about 25 cm. It is recommended to drive the heads of the screws into the surface of the gypsum board to a depth of 1 mm. Then it will be easier to disguise the attachment points with putty.
- Having finished fixing all sheets of drywall, you can begin to process the seams. For this, first of all, clean them of debris. Then prime the seams with typhus-soil (deep soil). Then you can seal the seams with putty.
- When all the seams are sealed, it is possible to level the entire planking and prepare for further wall finishing.
