Rights of the child in school
When a child goes to school, he has a lot of new responsibilities. But do not forget that in addition to the responsibilities of the child has rights. The Law "On Education" lists the main the rights of the child in school, which must be observed.

The main duties and rights of the child in the school are listed in the charter of the particular educational institution, but they must contradict the law "On Education", in particular, Article 50, entitled "Rights and social support for students, pupils".

The basic right is the right to education. Students of all educational institutions have the right to receive education in accordance with state standards and requirements. The right to education includes, in particular:

  • the right to study according to individual plans;

  • the right to an accelerated course of study;

  • the right to free use of the library;

  • the right to receive additional educational services (both paid and free).

If the child has studied in a non-accredited private school or is at home school, he has the right to pass attestation in an accredited educational institution and receive a document on education.

Also the child has the right to respect for human dignity, freedom of conscience, information, free expression of one's own opinions and beliefs. Unfortunately, these rights of the child in school can be violated. Thus, the violation of the right to respect for human dignity can be considered various forms mental violence, meeting at school:

  • threats, humiliations, insults in word and deed by teachers;

  • presentation of inflated demands to the child;

  • systematic unsubstantiated criticism, expressed in an incorrect form;

  • open demonstration of negative attitude towards the student;

  • "Bullying" (persecution by classmates);

  • xenophobia and discrimination on any grounds.

What should I do if there is a violation of the rights of the child at school? Protecting the rights of the child in school is a matter for parents and administration. The task of parents is to note that the rights of the childinfringe, and inform the administration about this, the administration's task is to sort it out. Usually, in conflict situations, the administration comes to meet and conducts an internal investigation to avoid public disclosure.

If the child has a conflict with the teacher,first try to solve the problem peacefully, after talking with the teacher: in any conflict, you need to listen to both sides. If this does not help, contact the school principal. On the basis of your written application, he must conduct an internal service investigation. The order for the school creates a commission, which includes students or parents, and the results of the work of the commission make a decision.

If the child is offended by other children, you need to first talk with his parents, perhaps this will be enough. In the event that bullying continues, address to the commission on affairs of minors and their rights. You can do this either in person or throughteacher. Abusers under 14 years are responsible for their parents, who are required to compensate for moral and material damage. If the culprit is more than 14 years old, for some of the deeds he will answer himself.

Prevention of discrimination and xenophobia is the responsibility of teachers. So if your child is persecuted forsend a message to them. If the teachers and the school administration are inactive and tolerate discrimination, and xenophobic sentiments are strong among students, you have every right to apply to the juvenile inspection. There have been cases when the school administration was sued for connivance.

Also the child has the right to safe and pleasant study conditions. Failure to follow safety instructions forphysical education lessons, the smell of paint in the corridors as a result of not being completed in time for repairs, low temperature in classes in the winter - everything that can harm a child's health gives you full right to make your claims.

Observance of the rights of the child in school is the responsibility not only of the teaching staff and administration, but also of the parents. The interests of the child should be your priority. If the child complains, do not ignore these complaints, do not be afraid to contact the administration: she must ensure that the rights of the child at school are respected. If you want the child to have only positive memories of school years, do not be afraid to seek compliance with his rights - but at the same time require the child to perform his duties.
