How to choose linoleum

There are three main classes of linoleums: household, semi-commercial and commercial. The latter we will not consider, since it is intended for enterprises, is quite expensive and at home it does not make much sense. As for household and semi-commercial, the main difference lies in the thickness of the protective layer on the surface.

This is a very important characteristic thatit is necessary to consider, because it depends on it, how long will your service last. In household linoleums, the thickness of the protective layer is from 0.15 to 0.2 millimeters, while in semi-commercial layers it is 0.4 millimeter. Accordingly, and the abrasion of such a linoleum will be much lower.

At the same time, in rooms with low traffic, for example, bedrooms and living rooms do not require high resistance to abrasion, thereby saving a good amount. But in children's, vestibules and kitchens it is worth choosingcoating with a large layer of protective layer. The thickness of linoleums of both classes can vary from 0.8 to 4 millimeters, it depends on it whether there will be any defects in the floor and the softness of the coating itself.

Thus, if you plan to laylinoleum on the concrete floor, it is better to choose either a thick (two or more millimeters) or an additional leveling base (for example, using a substrate or chipboard). If you want to lay linoleum on a wooden floor, then you can do and thin. In any case, it is very important to remove all defects of the floor beforehand, because if they penetrate through the coating, then over time, in these places, the protective layer will begin to be wiped.

How to lay linoleum

There is nothing particularly complicated in laying linoleum,The process itself is quite simple and requires only the knowledge of certain nuances. At the initial stage, all furniture should be removed from the room, the plinths removed (if any), and the base should be prepared. If you lay on a concrete floor, then it should be carefully cleaned from the dust of debris.

If you already have an old linoleum on the floor,then before laying a new one, you should carefully fix all the defects. It is worth noting that thick linoleum poorly pass air. It is better to lay them on concrete (wood) or chipboard, since the old coating, accumulated moisture, can release it directly in the center of the room and you will have an indelible stain. Next, he needs to lie down, so do not put the furniture, but for a few days just walk around the room. After the specified period, you can fix the plinth and put the furniture in places.

Welding of linoleum

Previously, linoleum compounds were usedspecial welding machines. However, they are quite expensive and they can only be used by specialists, so now a lot of devices have appeared on the market to connect the two parts of the coating with each other. In particular, there is a liquid called "cold welding", which, in its properties, somewhat resembles glue.

The simplest way to connect the two partscoating is a special double-sided adhesive tape - one side is glued to the base (concrete, wood), and the second to the pieces that need to be joined. If you have a transition between two different coatings or between rooms, then it is possible to use aluminum paddles, which are offered in building supermarkets.
