Relation to subordinates - an urgent issue for many managers. You will be too liberal - they will sit on your neck, you will be too demanding - they will revolt. How to find the golden mean in order to win respect and loyalty of the staff and at the same time not to destroy the working environment in the team?



To begin with, you need to remember that the attitude towards subordinates is primarily based on subordination. Initially, the notion of "subordination" applied tomilitary sphere and implied the obedience of juniors with the title of senior in rank. Now this term has spread to the business sphere and means established rules for the relationship between employees who are at different hierarchical levels within the organization.



In other words, your attitude towards the repaired shouldobey the rules of subordination existing in your organization. If, say, you have a habit of contacting a higher authority with "you", and you decided to play a "good boss" and allowed your department to "poke" you, nothing good will come of it. The subordinates may stop seeing the boss behind the image of the "shirt-guy", and "top" is reproached for violating the subordination. Even if outside the work some subordinates are your good friends, during working hours you should forget about it.



But within the framework of subordination, the attitude towards employees can be very different. In many ways, it will depend on the style of leadership you choose. The basic styles of leadership are three: authoritarian, democratic, liberal. We will not delve into the subtleties of each of them: we hope, already from the title of each style it is clear what relation the superior to his subordinates accompanies.



However, here everything is not so simple, because to the style of leadership are added the personal qualities of the boss. Take, for example, two leaders,preferring an authoritarian style: one of them is considered a tyrant and a despot, the second an example for imitation. Chiefs with the same style of leadership can earn both respect and contempt. Much depends on small things, which are not trifles in reality.



To earn the respect of subordinates, treat them with respect. If a person is below youhierarchical ladder, this does not mean that it is worse than you. And the position of the boss does not automatically make you better than subordinates. So be polite and friendly. Do not forget to say hello and say goodbye to them, say "please" and "thank you".



It's easy - say "Make this reportby three o'clock, please. " And then thank you when the report will be on your desk on time. Of course, you can argue - it's their duty, for which they are paid a salary. But money is not the only motivation that makes a person hold onto their workplace. In the end, from you will not be lost, but a kind word and a cat is pleasant.



However, do not overdo it so that your manifestations of politeness do not seem ingratiating: in communication with a subordinate it is very important to choose the right tone. Do not be familiar with them (and even more so -let them be familiar with you), but the abuse of power to the good will not accomplish. Depending on what style of behavior is adopted in your company, you can choose restrained friendliness (within the subordination, of course) or a neutral-polite tone.



The attitude towards subordinates manifests itself in how the chief criticizes them. Sometimes there is a temptation to repay the negligentemployee at all, to others it was not vain. But, firstly, other people rarely learn from other people's mistakes, and secondly, you expose yourself in a bad light. Avoid "public flogging", criticize workers face to face. It is unlikely that they will respect you, if they have to fear day in and day out that they can be humiliated with the whole team.



Well, do not forget that Your relations with subordinates are regulated by regulatory documents, starting with the Labor Code and ending withemployment contract. And you, and they have rights and duties that need to be remembered. So do not try to build a good relationship with your subordinates to turn a blind eye to the provisions of these documents.



The correct attitude towards subordinates is built on mutual respect. Finding a balance between all aspects of relationships with employees who have been in your subordinates is not easy, but if you succeed, you will surely be considered a good boss.
