Scooter: alternative transport in the city
Most citizens consider a children's scooterfun, akin to a three-wheeled bicycle. However, over the past few years, it is claimed by adults, as an alternative means of transportation around the city. The appearance of a respectable man in a business suit and on a scooter in big cities is no surprise.
Externally modern scooter looks like a playgroundfor the legs, covered with non-slip material and fixed on two wheels, which are arranged one after another. In front of the platform is vertically attached steering wheel-rack, and its height thanks to the telescopic design can be adjusted. The weight of the scooter varies from 2 to 5 kilograms.
Scooter as transport: pros and cons
At first glance, from such an uncomplicatedtransport on the two wheels in life is brought only benefit: to move on the scooter faster than to go on foot, fuel prices do not bother, car plugs do not interfere, physical activity increases and can replace a full morning gymnastics.
In addition, there are mobile models of scooters,which can be folded and carried in the metro or the workplace. One of the advantages of riding a scooter: this transport does not require special outfits and, after rolling on a scooter with a breeze, the rider does not have time to sweat as in a closed city transport and can quite afford to be dressed in an office attire.
More carefully considering the scooter from the point of viewan alternative type of urban transport, you can see that the center of the city to move around on the scooter is quite difficult: the sidewalks are blocked by pedestrians, only the suicide will risk a carriageway.
But if the route to work can be laid throughquiet and crowded streets and gateways, at the same time it is no more than 3 km, then the scooter really becomes an alternative city transport.
For those inhabitants of megacities thatTo get to the workplace you need to overcome a sufficiently large distance, can use the scooter as a link between the other modes of transport (metro, train, etc.). One of the drawbacks is that during a bad weather the movement on the scooter becomes almost impossible.
Types of scooters
There are quite a few types of scooters and, besidesa customary whiteboard on wheels, an adjustable steering wheel, on which you can sweep perfectly along the alleys of the park, there are also specimens with thick wheels - they are coping remarkably with the shortcomings of city sidewalks and roads.
To explain what a "kickbike" is, enoughremember the old photos, which depicts a bicycle with a huge front wheel and a tiny rear, it looks like the same model of the scooter, but instead of pedaling, the owner of the scooter, as usual, repelled by the foot. The choice of scooter is determined by the following characteristics:
- large or small diameter of wheels;
- purpose: racing, semi-racing or scooter for adults;
- Passability: for the city, highway, cross-country and snowmobile scooters;
- weight and scooter and the height of the telescopic steering rack;
- type of collapsible structure;
- case material: aluminum, steel and alloy and wheels: polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, plastic or rubber-coated.
TOThe exact date of creation of the scooterdifficult, because a vehicle similar to a scooter, you can see already on the old frescoes. More modern versions of the creation of the scooter belong to the beginning of the 19th century, it was during this period that the German inventor and scientist von Dres designed the first model of the vehicle, which he designated as a walking machine.
Although outwardly its design was more likebike, as it had a steering wheel and a wooden frame, but the movement was carried out by repelling the feet. In the course of advancing its invention to the masses, the scooter vehicle acquired a large number of adherents, but the footmen of the cities showed their displeasure and scooter in every possible way, as the form of urban transport did not develop, but for ages the scooter fell in love with kids and adolescents.
The most popular predecessorsmodern scooters were obtained from the French and English, who replaced the wooden frame with a metal one. In modern cities, it is increasingly possible to see people on the scooter, organized whole communities and driving movements on scooters.
If at least part of the motorists will sometimesUse a scooter in the form of an alternative means of transportation in the city, then the air pollution, the number of car accidents and traffic congestion will be significantly reduced, not to mention the significant strengthening of physical health.
Closing in the auto salon, residents of cities are deprived of the possibility of live communication, which is absolutely possible to race alongside on the scooter. The city can become much friendlier and healthier by getting on the scooter.
