How to sterilize banks
Summer and autumn - it's time to take care of yourselfblanks for the winter. Each hostess should not only know how to cook jam or compote, but also be able to sterilize the banks so that the home preparations do not deteriorate. How can I sterilize the cans?

If we neglect the sterilization of the cans orsterilize the jars incorrectly, microorganisms can remain on their internal surface, which lead to damage to house preparations. To avoid this, and you need to sterilize the banks. There are several ways to sterilize cans, but whichever method you prefer, to start the banks need to prepare.

For preservation it is necessary to choose the best cans without cracks, chips and other defects. Before sterilization they must be carefullywash. Metal covers should be clean, smooth, free from damage and rust, with new gaskets. They should ideally approach banks.

So, the banks are selected and washed, now you canstart to sterilize the cans. Some of these methods were used by our great-grandmothers, some of them appeared quite recently. Let's take a short look each of the ways.

Steam sterilization in a saucepan

Take a large saucepan, fill it with clean waterand put it on the stove. From above put a support for cans (a lattice from an oven, a metal sieve, a special support, etc.). On the stand, put one or more cans upside down. When the water boils, it will steam the banks. Sterilize them about 15 minutes.

Sterilization by boiling

You can sterilize the cans not by a couple, butdirectly in the water. To do this, take a large saucepan, put a wooden plank or a lattice on the bottom, put the jars and fill with water so that they are completely covered. It is desirable that the jars do not touch when boiling, so you can lay a cloth between them. Bring the water to a boil and boil for 15 minutes. Banks from the water must be extracted immediately, until it has not cooled down.

Sterilization in a double boiler

If you have a large enough steamer, you can simply and quickly sterilize the cans in it. You can simply load the washed bottles up in the steamer and turn on the cooking mode for 15 minutes.

Sterilization in microwave oven

Some mistresses have managed to sterilize banksin the microwave. In fact, this is also a steam sterilization. Pour about 1 cm of water into the bottom of the cans, put them in the microwave for 2-3 minutes at 700-800 watts. The water boils, and the resulting steam sterilizes the jars.

Sterilization in the oven

You can also sterilize the cans in the oven. After washing the container, put it in the oven without wiping it. Set the oven temperature to 160 degrees and heat the jars until they are completely dry.

Sterilization in the dishwasher

If you have a dishwasher-safe mode,Work at a water temperature of 60 degrees and above, you can sterilize the banks in it. Clean banks load into the machine and set the mode with the maximum temperature. Powder and other additives do not need to be used.

Sterilization in aerogril

And you know that you can sterilize the banks inaerogrile? It is done this way: put the washed jars on the bottom grill of aerogrill, install the ring-enlarger. Banks should be sterilized for 15 minutes at a temperature of 120 degrees (small banks of less than a liter will last 7-8 minutes).

Sterilization of caps

Not all listed methods are suitable forsterilization of lids. Covers can be sterilized with steam in a saucepan or a double boiler, and boiled. The microwave oven, dishwasher and aerogrill should not be used for sterilizing the lids. Sterilization of the lids is carried out immediately before rolling.

To the mistress of the note

After sterilizing the cans, do not turn them upside down and do not touch the neck. If this happens, the bank should be sterilized again.

During sterilization and conservation, avoid sudden temperature changes, because the banks will burst:

  • The heating of the water must be gradual and only together with the banks;

  • when sterilizing in the oven, do not open the door immediately, but wait until the temperature has decreased to 80-90 degrees;

  • When preserving, you need to pour hot workpieces or put them in still not cooled cans.

Each method of sterilization has its advantages and disadvantages, choose one that is more convenient for you personally. These Sterilization methods are used for empty cans, in our next article we'll talk about sterilizing cans with billets.
