Before you figure out how to drink Becherovka, let's find out what this drink is all about. The original Becherovka invented a pharmacist from Karlovy Vary, Josef Vitus Becher, in 1807. Actually, the name of this liqueur is just due to its creator. To this day, the real Becherovka is made only on Karlovy Vary water.



Becherovka includes more than twenty herbs. The herbal mixture is poured into bags made ofnatural canvas. Bags are immersed in containers with alcohol and held in them for about a week. Then the obtained extract is poured into oval barrels of oval form, mixed with water and sugar and insisted for 2-3 months.



The fortress of the original Becherovka (Becherovka Original), still produced according to the original recipe - 38%. Its formulation and technology of preparation have not changed since 1807. But over time, new varieties of Becherovka were invented:



  • Becherovka Cordial - liqueur with a strength of 35% with the addition of lime-colored and white wine;

  • Becherovka Lemond - liqueur with a strength of 20% with taste and aroma of citrus;

  • Becherovka KV 14 - 40% liqueur with the addition of red wine;

  • Becherovka KV 15 - liqueur with 39% strength of red color, aperitif.


Like any other liqueur on herbs,Becherovka has a specific taste, so it is important to know how to drink Becherovka. Initially, it was invented as a means to improve digestion, so it is accepted drink Becherovka after a meal, as a DJ. The exception is Becherovka KV 15, which is an aperitif.



Becherovka is served very chilled, drink this liquor from small glasses. It is believed that the real taste and aroma of the drink can be felt only if you drink Becherovka in its pure form. Sometimes a liqueur is snacked with a slice of orange, lightly sprinkled with cinnamon.



Some people prefer to drink Becherovka, adding it to tea or coffee. Especially well combined with tea, coffee and even hot chocolate Becherovka Cordial. You can also drink Becherovka, mixing it with a tonic and adding ice - this simple cocktail is called "concrete". You can add to this cocktail freshly squeezed lemon juice or grapefruit. The proportions of Becherovka and tonic may be different: 1 to 1, 1 to 3 or 1 to 4.

  • grape juice - 150 ml

  • Becherovka - 40 ml

  • Liqueur Blue Curacao - 20 ml


Mix all the ingredients in a shaker, add ice and pour into a tall glass. Before serving, decorate with a sprig of mint and an orange slice.



Bejito Cocktail



  • blackcurrant juice - 150 ml

  • tonic or soda - 50 ml

  • Becherovka - 40 ml


Preparing and decorating this cocktail in the same way as the previous one.



Cocktail "Tears of Raquel"



  • Becherovka - 50 ml

  • Liquor Triple Sec - 50 ml


Pour into the glass first Becherovka, second layer, without mixing, Triple Sec, before feeding the top layer ignite.



"Becherovka with cherry" cocktail



  • Becherovka - 40 ml

  • freshly squeezed grapefruit juice - 40 ml

  • cocktail cherry


Mix Becherovka and juice in a shaker with ice, shake, pour into a cocktail glass and decorate with a cherry.



Cocktail for the 200th anniversary of Becherovka



  • apple liqueur - 100 ml

  • Becherovka - 30 ml

  • a few drops of ginger ale


Fill the glass with ice to the brim, pour Becherovka and apple liqueur into it, add ginger ale. Before serving, garnish with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint.
