How to insulate the front door

Warming of the front door is a process by and largenot very difficult, most importantly, decide what you want to achieve in the end. If you need to eliminate drafts, then for this conventional seals are suitable, which are sold in almost any building supermarket. If the entrance door itself provides a weak thermal insulation, then you have to work a little more and use different heaters.

Types of seals

First, let's look at the seals, because it is much simpler. The market now has a fairly large range of seals, ranging from the most common - foam and ending with expensive rubber - industrial. Immediately it is necessary to say that the foam rubber sealants, which are used for windows, are not suitable for us because they serve very briefly with frequent opening.

That's why it's better to take rubber seals. There are many types of them - designed for different doors and cracks. If the door closes, in general, there are no dense and significant slots, then you can take a thin P-shaped seal, which will eliminate small cracks. If you have a serious gap between the door leaf and the box (this is most often found on welded doors made from one sheet of metal), then a D-shaped thick seal is better suited to cover the gap up to 5 millimeters thick.

Adhesive sealant is necessary either throughoutperimeter of the door, or from the side where there are cracks. The process of gluing itself is simple enough due to the fact that on the seals one side is specially treated with adhesive material. It should be noted that over time, the material can become unstuck, in such cases, you can either replace it, or just use dragon glue or other means to fix it in place.

How to insulate a metal door

As a rule, welded doors made from onesheet metal and corners, have a cavity on the inside. If you have such a door, then the process of its insulation will be extremely simple. It is enough to take a suitable insulation, for example, expanded polystyrene or foam, cut it in pieces, according to the dimensions of the cavities and attach to the canvas.

In particular, you can usemounting foam, glue "liquid nails" or "Dragon". After the material is securely attached to the door leaf, a piece of laminated fiberboard of the appropriate size can be attached from above, or some upholstery material can be used. In fact, in this way it is possible to strengthen any door, whether it is metal or wooden.

All you need for this is qualityinsulation, which is not absorbed by moisture (such as foam polystyrene in particular), as well as frost-resistant glue (for example, "Dragon"). Naturally, it is possible to fix the heater with self-tapping screws and metal corners, but the method described above is the simplest.

The main thing, when installing a heater, remember thatthe width of the door leaf on the inside is less than that of the outer one. Also, in some cases, traditional insulation with foam rubber and dermatine can be used. At the same time, the whole algorithm of work remains the same - foam rubber (insulation), glue to the canvas, then it is covered with dermatine, felt or other materials. Meanwhile, this option provides less thermal insulation.
