Backup registry: how to do?
Sometimes computer users are faced withsituations where you might need to edit the registry. However, if you accidentally delete some key, it may cause system crashes. Therefore, just in case, we need backup of the registry, from which you can restore the system registry in its original form.
Manual editing of the registry may be necessary, for example, if you need to deletesome program with all the settings (even when uninstalling through the "Installation and Removal of Programs" some programs leave unwanted "tails" in the registry and service folders). Sometimes, editing the registry is required to change a number of system settings.
However, if you do not understand what the registry isand how it works, you can accidentally edit or delete not what you need. As a result, the system is experiencing disruptions and conflicts, which are not easy to fix - in some cases, you even have to completely reinstall the operating system. Avoid this help you backup the registry: if you do something wrong when editing the registry, you can restore the original registry settings from it.
So, how is the copy of the registry done? Everything is very simple. First, you need to start the Registry Editor. Click Start, select Run from the menu. In the window that opens, type regedit and press OK / Enter. The Registry Editor window opens.

You need to select the folder in which to save the copy of the registry (by default it is the folder "My Documents"). Make sure that there is enough space on the local drive where you will keep a copy of the registry, because the copy size can be several hundred megabytes.
In the "File name" line enter the name of the copy (ifyou keep several backup copies of the system registry, it's better to mention the date in which the copy of the registry was made, so as not to confuse it). A in the "Export range" block you need to select the option "Entire register". Then click "Save".

How can I restore the registry from a saved backup? There are two ways. The first one is very simple. Just double-click on the backup file. The system will ask you for confirmation of entering information from the file into the registry, and click "Yes".
The second method is slightly more complicated. You need to go to the Registry Editor, select the "File" item in the top menu, and then select the "Import" option instead of the "Export" option. The window for importing the registry file opens, find the folder where the registry copy was saved, click the registry file with the left mouse button and click "Open". Import of information from the registry file will take some time.
When restoring the registry from a backup, it is advisable to close all open programs (even those that are in the tray and seem to be inactive), because the Registry Editor will not be able to import the keys associated with these programs, since they are currently in use.
Before manually making any changes to the system registry or installing an unfamiliar program, you must make a backup copy of the registry. Copy of the registry - this is a guarantee that with possible failures you will be able to return everything "as it was."
