Apples in caramelOne of the most popular New Year's desserts in the West is apples in caramel. Apples in bright caramel (usually red) on a stick are sold there almost at every corner on the eve of the holidays. The Country of Soviets offers a recipe for this New Year's dessert.

Apples in caramel

To prepare this dessert at home, you will need the following ingredients (based on 2 servings):

  • 2 apples

  • 150 g of sugar

  • 1 tsp. lemon juice

Apples for this dish should be taken evenly, beautiful shape, not wormy. Preferred acidic varieties of apples, because caramel is very sweet, and if the fruit is also sweet, this may already be too much.

Wash the apples and dry thoroughly. For this dessert only perfectly dry fruit will do. Prepare the dishes in which you will put the ready apples. The best is a wide flat dish, greased with refined vegetable oil or lined with waxed paper (so that apples do not stick).

Take a frying pan, pour sugar into it,pour the lemon juice and put on medium heat. Stir constantly and wait until the sugar is caramelized. If the sugar melts too quickly, reduce the heat, otherwise caramel may darken and start to be bitter.

As soon as the sugar melts and turns intothick syrup, plant an apple on a skewer or a wooden stick and dip into caramel. This must be done very quickly. Before you dip an apple, reduce the heat. But you can not remove the frying pan from the stove - caramel will thicken. If the apple did not dive completely, pour it out of the spoon. Finished the apple on a plate and let cool.

If desired, you can add food coloring to caramel to get multi-colored apples. And you can roll apples with still not hardened caramel roll in ground nuts or coconut shavings.

Bon Appetit!
