Initially, the grog is the favorite drink of sailorsBritish Royal Navy. Up to the middle of the 18th century, their ration included a portion of rum. But Admiral Edward Vernon decided to put an end to this tradition, since the daily use of alcohol by sailors led to drunkenness and riots on the ships. The commander-in-chief ordered to dilute rum with water. First the sailors protested, but then they loved the new drink, especially the rum, which was diluted with hot water, was good in the cold season. Admiral Vernon in bad weather wore a cloak, called grogam cloak, due to which he received the nickname "Old Grog" - "The Old Grog". In honor of the admiral and his cloak, a mixture of rum and water was also called "grog".



Now, as a basis for the Grog,Only become a classic for this drink rum, but also cognac or whiskey. Alcohol is diluted with hot water, tea or coffee, spices are added to the grog, and sometimes citrus, usually lime or lemon.



There are different recipes Grog, today we will share with you some of them.



To prepare a classic (simple) grog, you will need:

  • 600 ml of water

  • 2 tablespoons tea

  • 3-5 tablespoons Sahara

  • 3 pcs. carnations

  • 4 peas of sweet pepper

  • 3 peas of black pepper

  • 6 grains of badjan

  • cinnamon and nutmeg - on the tip of the knife

  • Bay leaf

  • 1 bt. Roma


Bring water to boil, add tea andspices, then pour rum. Allow the grog to boil, remove from heat and cover with a lid. After the grog is infused for 10-15 minutes, it can be consumed. The Grog is drunk hot.



To make coffee grog, take:

  • 0.5 l of rum

  • 100 ml of cognac

  • 50 ml of sugar syrup

  • 500 ml of coffee infusion

  • 1 lemon


Coffee infusion heat, but do not bring toboiling. Pour it over warmed porcelain cups, add rum, sugar syrup, cognac and mix. Put a bowl of lemon in each cup. This amount of ingredients is enough for 6-8 servings of grog.



For the dairy grog, the following ingredients will be needed:

  • 40 ml of rum

  • 100 ml of milk

  • 100 ml of tea infusion

  • 10 ml of sugar syrup


Mix the milk, sugar syrup and tea infusion. Warm up the mixture, but do not boil, then add rum. Milk grog served in porcelain cups.



In order to prepare a honey grog, take:

  • 40 ml of cognac

  • 150 ml of hot water

  • 10 g of honey

  • lemon


Honey and cognac dissolve in hot water - and the honey grog is ready! Serve it in a porcelain cup, putting there a slice of lemon.
