How to cook jam from berries?



Berry jam is usually very tender. It can be spread over a fresh loaf or toast, added to tea instead of sugar, used for baking. But if you want to enjoy the taste of berry jam in the winter, you need to cook the jam until the season of berries has passed.



Strawberry jam



Strawberry jam retains the delicate aroma of fresh strawberries and even in winter frosts reminds us of summer. To make jam from strawberries, we will need:



  • 1 kg strawberries

  • 1.5 kg of sugar

  • 2 g of citric acid


We peel the strawberries, clean them from the stems and mine in cold water. We put the berries in an enameled basin, pour the sugar and let it sit at room temperature, until the strawberry leaves the juice.



We put the basin on a slow fire and warm it up toAs long as the sugar is not completely dissolved in the juice. In this case, the berries should be gently stirred. Then increase the fire and cook for another 15-20 minutes. When cooking, do not forget to remove the foam. At the end of the cooking, add citric acid.



Hot jam is poured over sterilized jars and rolled.



Raspberry jam




In the winter, fragrant raspberry jam will save us from the common cold. To make jam from raspberries, we need to take:



  • 1 kg of raspberry

  • 1.5 kg of sugar


We clean the raspberries from the stems and leaves. If the raspberry is fresh and clean, just collected in your garden, you can not wash it.



We shift the berries to the enamel basin for cooking, pour the sugar and leave for a few hours, so that the berries let the juice.



We put the pelvis with raspberries on the fire and cook until boiling, gently stirring. When cooking, remove the foam with a wooden spoon.



When the jam is boiling, cook it for another 5 minutes, then let it cool down a little. We dispense warm jam into sterilized jars and roll them up.



To make the jam more dense, it should be cooked in two stages, both times bringing to a boil.



Jam from a currant (black)



Black currant jam, as well as raspberry jam, is an excellent tool for the prevention and treatment of colds. To make jam from black currant, we will need:



  • 1 kg of black currant

  • 1.5 kg of sugar

  • 4 tbsp. water


Water poured into a saucepan, bring to a boil and blanch in it previously washed and handled berries of black currant for 3-5 minutes.



The water in which the berries are blanched is filtered and used for the preparation of sugar syrup. When the syrup begins to boil, we lower the currant into it and cook it for 3-7 minutes.



Cool the jam and let it settle for6-8 hours. Then repeat: bring to a boil - boil - cool - let stand. To cook jam from the currant, you need 3-4 of this "approach".
